Executive Director Update

It's not too late to join us for our Nosy Neighbor Tour this afternoon at St. Anthony Main! We're starting with a tour of the architect and design firm, Cuningham Group -- please meet in their lobby, 201 Main Street SE, Suite 325 at 4:00pm. If you're entering St. Anthony Main from Second Street SE, enter the 212 Building -- you will be on the third floor. We'll be ending the tour at MCC's new office at 219 Main Street SE, Suite 401 and then going on to Tuggs Tavern for happy hour. If you can't join us for the tour, join us for social time at 5:00 at Tuggs!

This Thursday, HCMC is coming to our neighborhood with a program designed to help us become educated on how to be our own health advocates. We're thrilled to develop this relationship with HCMC and hope that you will join us. For more details on both of these activities, please see below. Thanks!  -- Linnea

Did You Know?

I hope you have enjoyed the many beautiful snowfalls this month!
Although we may feel fit and healthy, the National Institutes of Health reports that a large percentage of people fall each year.  Hip fractures are one of the most serious types of injury from falls and may lead to loss of independence.  To reduce the risk of a fall, stay physically active (try MCC's SBS class, Hatha Yoga, or River Walkers!), have your medications reviewed for side effects such as loss of balance or dizziness, have your blood pressure checked when lying down and standing up, choose safe footwear, get a vision check-up and avoid multifocal glasses when walking.  Sixty percent of falls occur in the home.  Simple fall prevention measures in the home include removing or avoiding safety hazards such as clutter, loose rugs, spills, and icy patches, improving lighting, installing handrails and grab bars, and moving items to make them easier to reach.  Click here to read more from the National Institutes of Health.
