Executive Director Update
We moved to our new office last week and are thrilled to be viewing the Mississippi! Our new office is located at 219 Main Street SE, Suite 401. It is a 278 square foot suite in St. Anthony Main with just enough room for our small staff. Our phone number will remain the same (you might want to give us a heads up before stopping by - 612-455-3329) and we will continue to use the 117 Portland Avenue #213 address for some of our business mail. Thank you to all of our members who helped make this happen! And to our previous landlord, MCC Members Scott Parkin and Amy Sperling for being so generous over the three years we shared their space.
Along with a new office we've added a new position -- Member Liaison. MCC Member Carol Jordan has accepted the volunteer position and will be supporting you, our members, by coordinating programs such as Social Bridge and Sunday Soup Soiree as well as tracking member registrations for other activities. We are thrilled -- Carol is both incredibly organized and a wonderful person to boot! Our part time Program Coordinator, Patti Ries, continues supporting Mill City Commons as Mill City Musings editor and author of the weekly "Did You Know" column, working with the Program Committee to create calendar details, updating the website with our monthly programming and much more. Patti is truly a pleasure to work with and brings a wonderful perspective and passion to the job. I am looking forward to another fabulous year at Mill City Commons! -- Linnea

Water Works
Thursday, January 17, 4:30-6:00 pm;
Washburn Lofts Community Room, 700 South 2nd Street

During the last few years, citizens and planners, largely with the assistance of an architect well-known for the planning of historically sensitive structures and spaces, have worked on ideas to enhance this last undeveloped site for public use, to deal with the boarded-up Fuji Ya restaurant, and to assure into perpetuity the protection of this historically significant land. The project is called "Water Works," as historically the site was also used for the pumping of water for city uses. Executive Director of the Minneapolis Park Foundation, Mary deLaittre, will be giving a presentation and refreshments will be served. This event is being sponsored by MCC Members Sue Bennett, Dave and Peggy Lucas, John and Laura Crosby, Penny Hunt, Keith and Mary Bednarowski, Cecily Hines and Margee and Will Bracken.

A note from Patti Ries,
Mill City Commons
Program Coordinator
Did You Know?
Many of our Mill City Commons members travel during the winter months to take a break from our Minnesota winters! Cornell University offers the following travel tips: Pace yourself while on vacation, see your doctor before you leave, make sure the immunizations you need are up to date based on your travel destination, take enough of your medications in their original bottles with you, as well as a list of your chronic conditions, and have a plan in case you get sick away from home. If you have a heart problem, keep a copy of your cardiogram with you. Stretch frequently if you're on a long plane ride and avoid alcohol while flying. Medicare does not generally pay for medical services outside the United States, so consider purchasing supplemental health insurance that provides this type of coverage, especially for travel abroad. Happy travels!
