I am grateful for your support through dues, donations and your gifts of time. Many thanks to our volunteers who help other members with transportation and other member-to-member volunteer requests. To our active committees that create amazing programming and support membership and marketing efforts. And to the MCC Board of Directors who are committed to ensuring Mill City Commons is here for the long term. If you would like to get more involved with a committee or as a volunteer, please let me know via a phone call 612-455-3329 or email. Thank you!

MCBA/Jerome Foundation Book Arts Fellowships Series XI

Since 1985 the Jerome Foundation has helped artists push the boundaries of contemporary book arts by supporting the creation of new book works. This year, five artists including book artist, printmaker and MCC member Cathy Ryan

were awarded Fellowships. Cathy describes her project: "The images in this suite of prints entitled Atlas reflect my response to distinct and resonant descriptions of the North American landscape chosen from the works of seven iconic authors." She says of the Fellowship, "Beyond project funding, it provided a context that supported the focus and dedication necessary to complete the work, and a venue in which to exhibit it. Most significantly, it provided the gift of time to consider and refine intension, content and process." This exhibition at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts runs through January 13, 2013.

Did You Know?

MCC members have been enjoying participating in table discussions with one another in the Journeywell series.  Our fourth Journeywell event, "How Do I Make My Life as Good as It Can Be?", will be held on November 29th.  In her book, Journeywell: A Guide to Quality Aging, author Trish Herbert asks, "How might I best deal with my feelings and work on developing an attitude that will enhance this period of my life? What kind of a toolkit can I create that will get me through the ups and downs?"  Research findings in the article, Senior Adults' Perceptions of Successful

Aging, by Duay and Bryan

correlate successful aging with active social engagement, successful coping mechanisms, positive attitude, deep spirituality, and maintenance of physical, mental, and financial health. Each of these elements are essential components of our "toolkits" as we age.
