Executive Director Update
Last week's National Village Gathering in Atlanta brought people together from across the United States and Europe. Irene Hoskins from the International Federation on Ageing stated that the Village Movement is an important international movement. Jacques Allegro of The Netherlands used the term "Modern Neighborship" to describe the community building pillar. Villages shared challenges and lessons learned. Although we have similar missions, every Village is unique, built by members using the connections and strengths of its membership and its community. It's an exciting time to be a part of our innovative Village -- Mill City Commons! -- Linnea

A note from Patti Ries, Mill City Commons
Program Coordinator
Did You Know?
Our next Journeywell event, "What's Different about Living a Long Time?" will be held on November 1st. According to Journeywell author, Trish Herbert, "Many mid-lifers are already looking at themselves and recognizing that they have to slow down. They are looking at their hamster-wheel lifestyle, blood pressures, stress, the increasing amount of depression, and the relentless pressures of society. They are looking forward to the choices that come with retirement, the opportunities to do and be more of the kind of person they want to be. They are realizing that living a life of meaning does not have to be performance oriented. The old-old teach us that there is plenty of meaning in the simple pleasures, in quality relationships, story sharing, and having a good laugh." As we age, we experience many changes that allow us to grow and bring deeper meaning to our lives. Our life experiences may offer opportunities to shift our focus from "doing" to "being." This new perception can bring a depth of richness to our lives and the lives of those around us.
