Did You Know?

Our Healthy Village Series event Journeywell I, Who is this Person Called Me? will be held on October 18.  Here is a sneak peek from author Trish Herbert's book, Journeywell: A Guide to Quality Aging:

"No one lives into old age without encountering setbacks, experiencing loss and disappointments.

Facing and recovering from these traumas often give us the raw material for our greatest learning.

Few get through life completely unscathed and the great majority learn from these experiences and grow. The seeds of wisdom, the learning that occurs as a result of life surprises cannot be taught 'virtually' to young people. It appears to be hard to push this process, to receive the in-depth learning any other way other than through real experience. There is no one template for aging well. We will all do it differently. Our personhood, our spirituality, our wholeness comes in later life because we have experienced so much and can now see with a wider lens."

As we age, we get to know ourselves better. Life review is a means of looking back over our lives, both the good and the bad, to better understand and integrate the events of our lives to derive our greater meaning and purpose.  As we look back over our lives, we recognize the many blessings in our lives and may come to terms with loss and unresolved conflict. We achieve generativity as we utilize the wisdom gained through our life experiences to leave a legacy for future generations.
