Caricatures, massages and more at WUOT Open House

WUOT's Brandon Hollingsworth entertained guests in the studio during
All Things Considered
at the 2016 Open House.
This year, WUOT welcomed more than 250 visitors to its annual Open House August 11! Attendees shared what keeps them up at night at the
"Tenn Words" booth with Matt Shafer Powell, tested their radio voices in the recording booth with volunteers Eric McAnly, enjoyed a fun WUOT-themed caricature from talented Asheville artist Brian Vasilik, relaxed with a chair massage by Aaron Searcy, LMT and explored WUOT during a special National Parks themed trivia hunt for a grand prize drawing. Visitors also had a special chance to learn about WUOT's TruckBeat project and visit the new WUOT news truck thanks to producer Jess Mador.

To top off the evening, WUOT's Afternoon Concert host Whitney Dodds (who's leaving us to return to Ohio, by the way; see article below) was joined by Allie Shiner, and Brandon Coffer on piano for some operatic show tunes fun. And of course everyone enjoyed the delicious treats provided by Holly's Eventful Dining, Three Rivers Marketand Magpies.

Special thanks to Sue Ramger, Laura Twilley and Coni Mann for getting everything set up; and to Cathy Grasch Evans, Jean Hannan, Jo Lynn Cunningham, Carol Curry, Keith Britt, Stephanie Smith, Joceyln Weslowski, Karen Fieldsa, Kathy Krohmer, Sharon Hammat, Susan Hawthorne, and Mary Bartolini for helping out with activities and greeting visitors. WUOT is so fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers. You all rock!

We hope you had as much fun as we did! If you want to share feedback about the event or have suggestions for future events and activities, please email Jennie Caissie
or call 974-9558. You can see pictures on our Facebook page. Thank you for supporting WUOT!

WUOT Bids Farewell To Whitney

It is with heavy hearts we announce the departure of Afternoon Concert host Whitney Dodds. Whitney is moving back to her native Ohio after two years behind the mic here at WUOT.  In her short time at the station, Whitney has acquired many fans with her lively and entertaining broadcast style and her rich selection of instrumental and vocal music. Her departure is a big loss for WUOT, but we wish her well in her future pursuits. Whitney, a gifted vocalist as well as a talented radio host, has several irons in the fire in Ohio so we'll stay tuned for her adventures to come.   Lastly. we'll never forget her 'eat the habanero pepper' challenge during a recent fund drive.  This is something we feel may never be repeated or topped in radio.

Next on The Method

Next time on The Method with Brandon Hollingsworth: In the not-too-distant future, you may find yourself sharing the highway with driverless cars. But history is filled with examples of technological predictions that never came true. What makes automated cars different? Plus: We peer into the science behind the resplendent colors of fall foliage.

Dialogue

WUOT's monthly live call-in program; hosted by a member of WUOT's News Staff.

In this presidential campaign, we're seeing a dramatic change in the way the candidates, talk, write and get their messages out to the voters.  On the next Dialogue, we'll talk with University of Tennessee professor Stuart Brotman, a veteran of four presidential administrations.  We'll look at how this year's race for the White House compares with past campaigns - and how it will inform future campaigns.

We'll take your calls at 865-974-5050; tweet us @WUOTFM or submit your question on WUOT's Facebook page.

Working Like A Dog: More Companies Welcome Pets
We'd all rather work with our dogs, wouldn't we? More employers are allowing pets on the job, although sometimes that entails navigating a different kind of office politics, as Yuki Noguchi reports for All Things Considered.
