WUOT Bids Farewell To Kevin Richard Doherty

We congratulate Early Morning Concert host and frequent Morning Edition host Kevin Richard Doherty on his new job as the morning drive classical music host at Capital Public Radio in Sacramento. WUOT provided Kevin with his first job in radio and we are so proud to have launched him into a broadcasting career he loves and enjoys. Kevin has been an outstanding part of the WUOT family and a much-loved member of our staff. He's also a talented singer and promoter so we are sure he will be a big hit in California on all fronts. He will be missed at WUOT and in our community and we are pleased that he has this exciting opportunity at a sister public radio station.

Christmas in July

Although the temperatures have been hovering around the 100-mark the past few weeks, the WUOT staff enjoyed a CHRISTMAS of sorts during the heat wave! The long-promised and anticipated fresh paint and new carpet for WUOT finally became a reality! While the thermometer outside pushed upwards of 100 degrees, first, an army of painters, and then carpet installers, worked their way up and down the halls of the station.

While many UT offices and departments 'relocate' or 'work from home' during such an ordeal, a radio station is not something one can simply 'leave' to the workmen! Several of us felt like nomads as we wandered from space to space with our laptops and cell phones, looking for a place to light to write underwriting copy or write a newscast or participate in a conference call!

Yes, July was a hot and hectic time at WUOT, but we're very pleased with our 'new' look! We can't wait to show everyone our freshly painted walls and beautifully carpeted floors during this year's Open House! Come take a look 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 11th!

San Francisco Opera Begins Later This Month

The second largest opera company in North America, San Francisco Opera has been a leader among international opera companies for nine decades. The radio series brings these world-class performances to the airwaves, along with the occasional historic performance, with hosts Elaine Warner and Dianne Nicolini.

SF Opera radio broadcasts begin Saturday, August 20, with Verdi's "Luisa Miller" with Leah Crocetto in the title role. On the 27th, it's Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" with Nadine Sierra as Lucia.

The final two performances from the 2016 season of LA Opera on Air are scheduled for August 6 and 13: Jake Heggie's "Moby Dick" and then Verdi's "Falstaff." Opera broadcasts begin at 1 p.m. on Saturdays. We hope you'll be listening!
