Another way you can support WUOT

Every year, Kroger donates millions of dollars to nonprofit organizations through its Community Rewards Program. If you already shop at Kroger, please consider registering your Kroger Card for the program and designating WUOT as your chosen organization. Then every time you shop, you'll be supporting WUOT!

Signing up is easy. Simply follow these steps and you'll be set!

Step 2: Log in or create an account if you don't already have one.
Step 3: Click on "Community" then "Community Rewards" near the top of the screen.
Step 4: In the "SEARCH" field, enter "WUOT-FM Radio Center".
Step 5: Click "ENROLL" at the bottom of the screen. That's it!

Not online? You also may visit the customer service desk at a Kroger near you to enroll. WUOT's NPO number is 54962.

If you problems registering or have any questions about the program, email Membership Coordinator Jennie Caissie or call (865) 974-9558.

Steve Inskeep is on the road again this summer

In a new project for Morning Edition, "America In Obama's Time," host Steve Inskeep takes to the road this month to explore how Barack Obama's presidency transformed the nation. Steve will visit the sites of some of the President's famous and not-so-famous speeches -- from Aurora CO, to Spring Hill, TN, and places in between -- to hear from everyday people how President Obama's years changed America. His reporting will air in early July.

WUOT welcomes Tracie Lansing Young

Tracie Lansing Young has joined WUOT's development staff as the new membership assistant. You may have met Tracie last spring during the 2015 drive when she took on the role as temporary support for data entry. Along with her positive attitude and great customer service skills, Tracie brings over 12 years of experience in financial data management from her career in the banking industry.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, and avid music fan, Tracie can be found volunteering at many community events throughout the area. She also enjoys cooking, gardening, crafting, scuba diving, and playing with her puppy, Woodford. A fun fact as we celebrate the National Park Service Centennial: Tracie has visited almost every National Park in the United States!
We are very excited to welcome Tracie to the WUOT team! You can reach Tracie at tyoung36@utk.edu

Calling all artists! WUOT is looking for YOU!

Two-time mug artist Jeanne Lane shows off her recent design
Share your creative, artistic side with WUOT Public Radio and your design just might end up on one of our fund drive mugs! You have the chance to become a lasting part of WUOT when you enter the sixth annual Artist Mug contest! We're looking for an original image that shows your love of WUOT, its programs or the station's home in East Tennessee. If your design is selected, we'll feature it on the coffee mug for the fall 2016 or spring 2017 fund drive.

We welcome all styles of artwork, from cartoon to watercolor to photography - as long as it ultimately can be put into a high-resolution digital format. The winning design will be featured on the mug thank-you gift that goes to hundreds of listeners as well as on our website and Facebook. The winning artist will receive significant on-air mentions during the fund drive, on our website and also in a large mailing.

Submissions will be accepted starting Friday July 1. All entries must be received by 6 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Want to get ahead of the game? Check out the design template.

Dialogue

WUOT's monthly live call-in program; hosted by a member of WUOT's News Staff.

In Nashville, conservative Republicans are in year five of a tense alliance with legislative leaders and a centrist governor. On the presidential campaign trail, so-called establishment Republicans are tempering their support for Donald Trump. And Hillary and Bernie supporters are hurling insults at each other as much or more so than at their Republican opponent.

But if you think this is the bottom of the barrel, or that this election year is somehow unprecedented, we're here to tell you it's not. Host Brandon Hollingsworth is joined by WPLN political reporter Chas Sisk and Maryville College political science professor Mark O'Gorman for a discussion of intra-party struggles at the state and national levels.
We'll take your calls at 865-974-5050; tweet us @WUOTFM or submit your question on WUOT's Facebook page.

Follow A Snowy Owl From Maryland to Ontario
This spring, science reporter Adam Cole and producer Ryan Kellman got in a car to follow the precise migration path of a snowy owl named Baltimore. Thanks to cutting-edge tracking technology, they were able to visit the exact perches Baltimore chose: a piece of driftwood on the Jersey coast, the top of a Manhattan skyscraper, and the roof of the smallest radio station in Canada. Along the way, they met the people touched by Baltimore's migration, and learned about the life of an owl in unprecedented detail.
