New Year, New Contests!

There's a lot to see and do in 2016, and WUOT wants to send YOU. Check out the list below, see what strikes your fancy, and send an email to Cindy Hassil with the name of the event in the subject line. Please include the following information in the body of the message:
  • Name of show
  • Date of show
  • Preferred theatre (if applicable)
  • Your name
If you want to enter more than one contest, PLEASE send a separate email for each. We'll do a random drawing of the entries and contact the winners by email. The deadline to enter ALL contests is Tuesday, Jan. 12. Good luck!

Knoxville Opera presents Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel

Humperdinck's sets Grimms' timeless fable to a magnificent score filled with folk tunes and romantic lyricism. Knoxville Opera's lavish production features amazing vocals, a 19-foot-tall candied house, trees with blinking eyes, cuckoo birds, angels and a dancing witch! 
 


The Bolshoi Ballet presents The Taming of the Shrew

Suitors dream of Bianca, but her father insists that her elder sister, the ill-tempered shrew Katherina, marry first. Jean-Christophe Maillot created this new production of Shakespeare's comedy set to the music of Shostakovich specifically for the Bolshoi. Special thanks to Fathom Events

New Year's Day from Vienna 2016 - LIVE

The Vienna Philharmonic presents its ever popular annual New Year's Day concert from the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. You'll hear your favorite waltzes, polkas and more -- a festive way to start off the New Year. It's presented by NPR Music and hosted by WBUR's Lisa Mullins.

Teaching Grit On The Water: A Top Coach Mixes Rowing With Life
The education at the Rose City Rowing Club starts long before oars touch the water. The first lesson from head coach Nick Haley is about punctuality. Haley is speaking to more than 100 high school students gathered before him. He notes that several of the club's big boats - they're called Racing Eights - are being repaired because some of the kids carelessly banged them together.
