NPR's Steve Inskeep Speaks June 2

Don't miss the chance to hear NPR's Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep talk about his new book, Jacksonland: President Andrew Jackson, Chief John Ross, and A Great American Land Grab, on Tuesday, June 2, at the Bijou Theatre. The book tells the story of Andrew Jackson, and Cherokee Indian chief John Ross and an epic land battle that set the stage for the U.S. Civil War.

An on-stage book signing follows the talk. Thanks to The Friends of the Knox County Public Library, East Tennessee Historical Society and Knox County Public Library, this event is FREE, but you need to reserve your seats.

Suttree's and 91.9 Inc Board host Pubs 4 Public Radio

It's rare to see someone on top of a bar in real life, but WUOT Director of News Content Matt Shafer Powell was up to the challenge May 28. (And he made it down too.) Matt was thanking everyone at  Suttree's High Gravity Tavern on WUOT Night, part of Pubs 4 Public Radio.

Pubs 4 Public Radio began as the brainchild of 91.9 Inc. Board members Daniel Boutté and Caroline Wasmund to engage younger listeners, but all ages came out to support the station. Suttree's generously donated a portion of the night's profits to WUOT. Thanks to everyone who put the pub in pub-lic radio!

Tenn Words Update

On May 16, WUOT and the UT College of Social Work debuted an ambitious crowd-sourcing adventure called Tenn Words. Throughout this summer and fall, we'll be asking people to answer the question, "What keeps you up at night?," in 10 words or less. So far, the answers posted at the International Biscuit Festival and Suttree's High Gravity Tavern have ranged from the funny to the bizarre to the poignant.  In the two weeks since we launched the project, we've already received nearly 300 responses.

Once answers have been catalogued and analyzed, WUOT's award-winning news department will use the results to inspire feature stories, series or documentaries. Stay tuned to WUOT to learn where the Tenn Words wall will appear next, and follow our progress on twitter (@tennwords) and Instagram (tennwords). If you can't make it out to the wall, share your 10-word response online at WUOT.org.
