Give the Gift of Public Radio in December

With our fall 2014 fund drive just ending, donations being sent in to fulfill pledges and thank-you gifts being mailed out, you might think it odd if we ask you to make an additional donation to WUOT in December.

But the end of the calendar year is the perfect time to support causes you care about. Many people make multiple donations as part of their end-of-year, tax-deductible charitable gifts. Some do it for themselves, but others make donations in honor of someone else as their gift to them. It's a wonderful gift for someone "who has everything," or for someone who cannot afford to give themselves.

So, if you are planning to make end-of-year gifts, please consider one to WUOT Public Radio. If you missed the drive, it's not too late to donate online and select a thank-you gift if you qualify.  Or you might consider another gift: One to the WUOT Endowment Fund.

The WUOT Endowment is a new, additional revenue source for WUOT. This fund will generate interest income to support the station for generations to come, and is an important part of our plans to help sustain the station in times of budget cuts and funding eliminations. If you donate to the fund by Dec. 31, you'll become a Charter Member of the WUOT Endowment. Please write "Endowment" in the memo line of your check. For more information about the endowment, visit wuot.org/wuot-endowment.

Giving the gift of public radio isn't just a gift to the station; it's a gift to everyone who listens, today and for many tomorrows. Thank you so much for your support of WUOT, and warm wishes for the holidays.

These X's Are the Same Shade, So What Does That Say About Color?

Learning to name the colors is a ritual of childhood. At first kids have no clue; often they'll just say everything is "boo." Pretty soon, though, they can rattle off Roy G. Bivwith aplomb. Still, that doesn't mean they understand what color actually is.

Amazon Unleashes Robot Army To Send Your Holiday Packages Faster

At most warehouses goods are held on shelves, and it's up to humans to go out into them to stock or retrieve stuff. But with technology that Amazon acquired when it purchased Kiva Systems in March 2012, the goods move to the humans. Orange robots the shape and size of ottomans zip under shelves, lift them up and whisk them to stations.
