Open House Was a BIG time!

WUOT Board member Daniel Boutte was the perfect tour guide
More than 220 people attended WUOT's Open House Aug. 7, making it one of the biggest yet! In addition to learning about news production and stepping into the recording booth, attendees had caricatures drawn by Asheville artist Brian Vasilik and explored the offices for a treasure hunt.

Melony Dodson, Todd Steed and Bob Deck provided musical entertainment, and were joined toward the end of the evening by our talented Jazz Jam host, Kelle Jolly, whose vocals brought down the house. And of course everyone enjoyed delicious treats from Holly's Eventful Dining, The Tomato Head and Magpies.

Special thanks to volunteers Gene Dunaway, Devyn Caissie, Chuck Cuthbertson, and Daniel Boutte for getting everything set up, as well as Maggie Barta, Alissa Reeves, Caroline Wasmund, Margie Cuthbertson, Emily Jernigan, Robin Hill, Penny Tschantz, and Doris and Phil Sklad for helping with activities. WUOT is so fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers. You all rock!

We hope you had as much fun as we did! If you want to share feedback about the event or have suggestions for future events, please contact Jennie Caissie at jcaissie@utk.edu or 974-9558. Hope to see you at next year's party!

How to Eat Well on a Food Stamp Budget
Canadian scholar Leanne Brown was unimpressed with cookbooks available for people on food stamps in the U.S. So she came up with Good and Cheap, an online guide with tips and recipes for eating well on $4 a day.

Hall Joins WUOT

When UT Internal Auditor Elizabeth Hall conducted WUOT's audit earlier this year, she probably didn't think she'd be making a career change. But now the auditor has become the audited!

In mid-August, Elizabeth joined WUOT as the station's business manager. In that role, she is a member of the management team and is in charge of the station's financial operations.

A certified public accountant, Elizabeth has been with UT since 2007, when she joined the staff as a residence hall director. For a little over four years, she has conducted internal and performance audits. Prior to joining the university, she worked as a staff auditor and a staff tax accountant.

Elizabeth holds a master's degree in accountancy and a bachelor's degree in business administration from UT. She also has completed work toward a doctorate in school psychology.

In her free time, this Knoxville native enjoys hanging out with her crazy kids, William (six years old) and Annie (19 months), and her husband, Ben Sharbel. She also enjoys traveling, running, taking classes in just about everything UT offers, and real estate. Welcome, Elizabeth!
