How The Three Tenors Changed The Classical Game
Twenty years ago this week, opera stars José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti gave a one-night-only show at L.A.'s Dodger Stadium. The massive spectacle permanently altered how a large amount of classical music is presented, packaged and sold.

WUOT Says Goodbye to Longtime Staffer

In his 45 years at WUOT, David Williamson has certainly heard it all, seen it all and done it all! Through the years, he has been involved in literally every aspect of station operations. While many know him as WUOT's assistant manager and financial wizard, he has been much more than just WUOT's ace bean counter! David has had an eclectic tenure at WUOT and has been at the forefront of the station's success.

About 40 business colleagues, friends and family gathered to honor David and his contributions to WUOT, and wish him well in retirement at a reception July 29 at UT's McClung Museum.

David began his WUOT career as the station's first full-time staff announcer, and later, as the arts producer, he handled WUOT's first stereo out-of-studio music recordings. He also organized and directed the station's first on-air fund campaign in 1983 and programmed the station's first computerized donor database.

WUOT was the first radio station in Knoxville to adopt CD technology because David was committed to ensuring that WUOT presented its listeners with the very best audio quality available. His business acumen resulted in a favorable 25-year tower lease and a 10-year extension lease with WBIR-TV, saving the station hundreds of thousands of dollars over the lifetime of the leases. David also oversaw numerous office and studio renovations, including WUOT's conversion to an all-digital production and broadcasting facility.

David has truly been WUOT's "Renaissance man," and to say that he will be greatly missed is an understatement! There's no way to replace David's institutional memory and experience, but after 45 years, he has certainly earned his retirement. He says he'll continue his world travels and is already planning his next trip.

Bon voyage, David, and best wishes for your retirement!
