Bring in the New Year
With a Bare Root Tree!
The New Year has arrived, and with it sunshine continues to be our almost daily companion. What a bright and beautiful winter we have experienced so far! Without the usual onslaught of rain, we have a unique extended planting season where it is still warm and dry enough to work the soil. Now is the time to plan out new changes in your yard and garden. Here in the North Valley we have some of the best weather to grow many types of fruiting trees, bushes, and vines. If you are like us and love to grow your own food, please check out our arrival of bare root fruit trees and berries! A large selection is here already, with more varieties on the way, all well suited to grow in our area. Now is a perfect time to plant fruit trees and roses to allow them ample time to develop a strong root system before the feverish growth of spring and scorching heat of summer. Check out the list below and click the links for a detailed description from the growers on each variety. Remember, homegrown fruit is one of the best ways to make sure you are eating fresh and pesticide free!
Everybody here at Magnolia Gift and Garden would like to wish you a joyful and prosperous year to come. We hope you continue to grow with us in our ever-evolving plans for a magical and special nursery, welcome to be enjoyed by all!

Fresh Start, Clean Yard
This is the month of new beginnings--but let's not allow diseases and pests to start over too. A tidy yard free of debris is the best way to prevent colonies of munching buggers from spending a warm and comfy winter nestled in beds of leaves and twigs in your garden. Old and crisscrossing branches should be removed from trees and shrubs on a regular annual schedule around this time, which helps keep the trees strong and disease free. Compost or dispose of those piles of leaves and dead foliage, and if there was a disease or pest on those leaves this past year, make sure you throw them out and not in your compost.
And don't forget, the timely application of dormant sprays are critical components in breaking year-to-year disease cycles.
