A Note from Nils...

Welcome back!  We hope that you had an awesome spring break!  We are looking forward to a great fourth quarter!

State Assessments-Third, fourth, and fifth graders will take the state reading assessment next week, and the state math assessment during the week of April 13.   Fourth graders will take the state science assessment during the week of April 20.

Your child's teacher will let you know the exact times and dates.  Please be sure that your child is well-rested and is ready to do their very best.  Our teachers and students have worked hard on their reading and math skills, and this will be a great opportunity to show their progress.

Upcoming Events-We have some awesome family events coming up, and we hope that you can join us.

Monday, March 30 (4:30-6:30) - PWS Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A.  Please join us for dinner or a snack.  PWS receives 20% of all proceeds as long as you tell the cashier that you are with PWS.  Spin the wheel ($1 a spin) for some fabulous prizes, and PWS gets 100% of those proceeds.  Money raised from this event will support PTO projects including buses for field trips, classroom grants for teachers, and name tags for every student.

Thursday, April 2 - Family Reading Night - Come celebrate our school wide book study of The Mouse and the Motorcycle!  More information will be sent home with your child.

Wednesday, April 15 - Jason's Deli Night.  More information will be coming soon about this fundraiser.

Thursday, April 30 - Our last PTO meeting.  We hope you can come and get involved in all of the awesome activities of the PWS PTO.  At this meeting, we will discuss a projected budget for 2015-2016 and finalize fundraisers.

Volunteer Opportunities - As we prepare for next school year, we are looking for parent volunteers to help with a variety of important jobs at PWS.

**Site Council - Meets at least four evenings during the school year to provide guidance on school policies and programs.  Also helps plan our annual Family Night.

**PTO - Help coordinate Entertainment Book sales and T-Shirt sales to raise money for a variety of school projects as well as other school projects.

**Yearbook - Take photos of school events and prepare the yearbook for students to remember another special year at PWS.

If you are interested in serving on any of these committees, please contact me at [email protected] or 350-2603.  We really appreciate all of our parent volunteers!!!!!

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT FOR FALL 2015

Kindergarten online pre-registration open,
             in-person enrollment March 26

It's time to get ready for Kindergarten enrollment! Students must be five years old by Aug. 31.

Online pre-registration for enrollment opened earlier this month and must be completed prior to the March 26 Kindergarten Enrollment event, which will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Maize South Elementary School, 3404 N. Maize Road. Please note that arriving early has no impact on your child's building assignment or morning vs. afternoon class placement. If you have questions, please call 316-462-8300.

Recommended enrollment assignment by last name: A thru G, 5-6 p.m.; H thru P, 6-7 p.m.; Q thru Z, 7-8 p.m. (Come any time between 5-8 p.m. if your assigned time doesn't work for your schedule.)

If your student currently attends Maize Early Childhood Center, you will also need to complete pre-enrollment and must attend the March 26 session to finalize enrollment.

Families may opt for our fee-based all-day Kindergarten option, offered for $225 per month.   Parents will be asked to provide a non-refundable deposit of $225 to secure an all-day Kindergarten slot at enrollment (this will count as your August monthly tuition payment.) Families who qualify for free and reduced lunches will not be required to pay the $225 deposit. This will aid the district in determining the number of teachers that will need to be hired and the amount of equipment and supplies to order.

We are looking forward to welcoming our Kindergarten students to our Maize family!

EMERGENCY ALERTS & NOTIFICATIONS
In the event of an emergency in your child's school, the Blackboard emergency Connect parent notification system will be used to notify you of the situation and will alert you to steps you need to take in order to reunite with your child.  Voice messages will be sent to all phone numbers and emails listed in Skyward Family Access "Family 1".  To view the contact information the district has on file, please log on to Skyward Family Access and click on "Student Information."  If you are unsure how to log on to Skyward Family Access, please contact your child's school for assistance.
ONLINE BULLETIN BOARD
reminder The Maize School District introduced an Online Bulletin Board, which replaced all paper flier distribution.  Click here for information about student-related activities and events, which could include those sponsored by a Maize school or partner agency and that are related to academics, athletics or fine arts.

TARGET FUNDRAISER

Shop at Target and help us Fundraise!

Every time we make a purchase at Target with a Target debit or credit RedCard our school gets 1% of that total! This past August we received a check for over $1,000 from the purchase totals of 40 individuals. Here's how to get signed up and have your card linked to our school so we can get the proceeds.

  1. Stop into the Target on 21st and Maize and ask any cashier about signing up for a RedCard. It's completely free and easy to sign up for. There is a debit option that links with your current checking account so be sure to bring a blank check and drivers license. There is also a credit option if that is your preference! (You can also sign up online at Target.com)

  2. Once you receive your card and activate it, go to Target.com and at the bottom of the page it will read "Manage my RedCard." You will make an account login and then follow the prompts to link the card to our school.

  3. Shop!! Remember that 1% of all we spend at Target comes right back to the school! There's no limit on this and it's a free way to fundraise!

  4. If you have problems linking your RedCard to our school, Patrick Wolz is our contact at Target. He is the Assistant Store Manager and can help if needed. His email is [email protected].

 Visiting Author

Thirteen fifth graders from various Pray-Woodman classrooms signed up to read Mark Goldblatt's new book, Finding the Worm.  The students have been reading the book and meeting weekly at lunch to discuss it.  They had an opportunity to go to Maize Middle School and meet with the author.  Mr. Goldblatt was interesting to listen to, and it's safe to say that the group would unanimously recommend the book.  It's a great read!

Dates and times are listed above. We are asking you to dress your child in "farm" attire the day of his/her program. Jeans - pants or skirt or overalls, boots or comfortable shoes... for example. All K students will be wearing farm animal themed visors to complete the outfit so hats will not be needed.

PWS 3rd Grade Valentine Community Service Project
Pray-Woodman Third Graders participated in a Valentine Community Service Project to show their appreciation for the service and sacrifices of our military personnel.  Treat bags were made from candy the parents donated and Valentines the students made.  Four boxes of Valentines were sent to the Air Force 968th Expeditionary Airborne Control Squadron that was stationed in Southwest Asia.  The airmen of the 968th were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve and were deployed from early November until March 22nd.  The third graders included a banner that they signed with a group picture and the message, "Sending You Our Love."  The banner flew on two Operation Inherent Resolve missions in hostile skies with airmen protecting and defending American freedom.  Pictured on the far right with the banner on an E-16 during one of the missions is Max Weis, MHS graduate and the son of Mrs. Martin, PWS third grade teacher.

 AFTER SCHOOL PICKUP/PARKING

Parking along Academy Street or in one of our parking lots is an option for picking up your children after school. If you choose to pick up your students this way, we ask that you walk over and pick your students up from the waiting area. If you are unable to do this, please wait in our parent pick-up car line. Thank you!
