A Note from Nils...

It's hard to believe that the school year is almost over! We look forward to seeing you at Field Day and Spring Parties as well as many of the other events that will occur at the end of the school year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support through our fundraisers (Entertainment Book, Discount Cards, Book Fairs, and Winter Blast).

Because of your generous support we have been able to:

  • Add four shorter basketball goals to the playground.
  • Provide bus transportation for field trips.
  • Put in a new slide (coming soon).
  • Purchase new books for the library.
  • Purchase math manipulatives and games.
  • Acquire classroom sets of books.
  • Provide money for each teacher for classroom supplies including books, art materials, behavior incentives, learning games, and resource books.
  • Install large bulletin boards for the hallways to display behavior posters.

If you would like to be involved in fundraising as well as other volunteer opportunities at PWS, we would like to invite you to come to a PWS PTO meeting on Thursday, May 9 at 4 p.m. in the Band Room. We will discuss fundraising ideas for next year, look at some possiWSU - Mr. Grabrielsonble shirt designs, and talk about other volunteer opportunities that will help our students and staff.

PWS will have three sections of all day kindergarten and one section each of morning and afternoon kindergarten next year.   The kindergarten rooms will be in the 300 Hall. First grade will be coming to PWS for the 2014-2015 school year and will also be in the 300 Hall. The second grade classrooms will be moving to the 400 Hall.

Thank you for your support! Together we can make great things happen for our students!!!!!

PWS RECEIVES AWARD FOR CHARACTER ED
The Kansas State Department of Education, in partnership with the Character Education Partnership, recognized PWS with a Spotlight Award for exhibiting current strengths in a strand of the newly adopted SECD Standards and another award for Promising Practices in Character Education.

The Kansas Schools of Character Award recipients are schools and/or districts that have demonstrated education principles that include creating a caring school community, engaging families and community members as partners in character-building efforts, fostering self-motivation, and implementing meaningful and challenging academic curriculum that respects all learners, develops character, and helps students succeed.

We are so proud of our counselor, Joey Buresh, and the behavior committee who applied for these awards and have worked hard to implement our new behavior program over the last two years!
congratulations

May and Weis pop tabsRonald McDonald 3

Last Friday two teaRonald McDonald 2chers and some lucky students made the delivery of 544,058 pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald house. They weighed them in at 413.7 pounds. They will turn them in to be recycled and the money will be used to give families a place to stay near their sick children who are in the hospital. We Ronald McDonald 1were also able to tour the house while we were there. It looks just like the inside of a regular house with extra rooms upstairs.

We would like to thank everyone for collecting the pop tabs all year long. A special thanks to the students of Ms.Weis, Mrs. Schweikert, Mrs. Whitson and Mrs. May for counting out all those tabs and keeping a running total.
