4TH GRADE TEACHER RECIEVED AWARD
|
 |
Left to Right: Dawson Grimsley, Davis-Moore; PWS principal Nils Gabrielson, KAKEland report Jeff Herndon; PWS teacher Jason Ramey and Alan Kohlhagen, Papa John's.
|
Congratulations to PWS fourth grade teacher, Jason Ramey, for receiving the KAKEland Golden Apple Award! The award recognized Wichita-area teachers who have gone above and beyond in their classrooms. One visit to Mr. Ramey's room will convince you that he fits the criteria! His students enjoyed an impromptu pizza party courtesy of Papa John's and the school received a $250 check from Haddock Computers. Watch for him to be featured on the news and also in the Davis-Moore ad in The Wichita Eagle.
Teachers like Jason exemplify the reason we have such an excellent school system. We will always have our issues and challenges to work through but at the end of the day, you can walk in any of our schools at any given time and see wonderful things happening in our classrooms. Our staff members consistently go above and beyond to provide an educational experience that is second to none.

LIBRARY NEWS... by Sheryl Connell
|
If the PWS library is trading plants for boxtops, spring can not be far behind. As we begin our Earth Day studies at Pray-Woodman Library, we will be giving away a vegetable or flower plant for every 25 boxtop labels brought to school. Students may bring as many boxtops as they like until April 30. They'll be making the earth a more beautiful place and helping our school library make money to buy books and SRC prizes.
We have narrowed down the serious contenders for our Battle of the Books contest this year.

Students had to have read and passed SRC tests for five books on this year's list to be placed on a team.
Teams will start practicing next week at least one day a week. In order to take part in the competition, each team member is required to read and pass an SRC test for 12 books. Competitions will be held the last two weeks of school. The teams are as follows:
THIRD GRADE TEAMS TEAM 1 TEAM 2Aiden W. (Doern) Bradyn R. (Schweikert) Allison C. (Doern) Eric B/ (Schweikert) Andy S. (Doern) Logan C. (Schweikert) Bella B. (Doern) Stone S. (Schweikert)
TEAM 3 TEAM 4 Colby L. (Peters) Tanner M. (Charles) Kira M. (Peters) Haylee N. (Charles) Phu V. (Peters) Rylie B. (McDowell) Grace W. (Doern) Brock S. (Weis)
FOURTH GRADE TEAMS TEAM 1 TEAM 2 Adelyn H. (May) Amanda B. (Palmer) Alexa M. (May) Mike M. (Palmer) Jeanine L. (Carter) Kye S. (Runck) Raul G. (May) Olivia H. (Whitson) Rachel M. (May) Jeannine Lopez (Carter) Emma Laughary (Hay) FIFTH GRADE TEAMS TEAM 1 TEAM 2 Blake D. (Harding) Alex P. (Scott) Jason L. (Wiechman) Audrey F. (Scott) Aenya R. (Morrow) Jonah C. (Scott) Alexys S. (Morrow) Sophia B. (Scott) Kaydyn D. (Morrow) Devon G. (Harding) Since there were only two teams each in fourth and fifth grade, those grades will be competing amongst each other. Watch for dates and times of competitions in the next newsletter. |
PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS TEST...
By Coach Buchanan & Coach Schauer
|
Dear Parents,
During the next two months, your child will participate in a battery of five fitness tests known as the Presidential Fitness tests. These tests individually target certain components of fitness. Their scores are compared to a set of national standard scores that take into account both gender and age.
The scores your child earns could make them eligible for a National or Presidential Fitness Award. Although the opportunity for an award is there, the emph asis is for a student to attain their own personal best. Below you will find a summary of the tests, as well as the requirements for each of the awards.
A summary of your child's scores will be sent home with them. Please take some time to review these scores with your child so they can continue to achieve their personal best. Thanks for your continued support. Tom Buchanan & Mike Schauer, Physical Education
PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS TESTS:
1. Shuttle Run: A test of speed and agility
2. Curl-ups: A test of abdominal strength
3. Sit & Reach: A test of hamstring & lower back flexibility
4. Pull-ups: A test of upper body strength & endurance
5. Distance Run: A test of cardiovascular endurance
AWARD REQUIREMENTS:
Presidential Award: A student must fall within the 85th percentile or better on all five tests in order to achieve this award. This is a difficult award to achieve.
National Award: A student must fall within the 50th percentile or better on all five tests in order to achieve this award.

ONLINE BULLETIN BOARD - Your Resource for Clinic and Camp Information
|

Maize USD 266 is working to utilize technology and online resources in communicating with parents, staff and the community. As part of this effort, Maize USD 266 is introducing an Online Bulletin Board to tell parents about opportunities offered by school sponsored or student curricular groups, events linked to individual schools or activities sponsored by groups partnering with the Maize schools.
The Online Bulletin Board is through the district Web site, www.usd266.com. Beginning in January 2013, the Online Bulletin Board will replace all paper flier distribution from outside groups.
Families can access the Online Bulletin Board from the Parents or Community tab on the district home page. Additionally, it will be available under Quick Links or you can go directly to the page at www.usd266.com/bulletinboard.
As an added convenience, people can receive email updates each time new information is posted. Visit www.usd266.com/bulletinboard and click "Subscribe" to sign up. Subscribers will receive emails each time new fliers are posted.

NURSE'S CORNER...by Darlene Henderson

Dental screening results were sent home on March 14th in the student's backpacks of those who participated. Please call if you have any questions. Also, the nurse's office can always use more clothing for students who may need a change for the variety of mishaps that can happen in a school day. If you have any clothing that your child has outgrown, please send it our way. Thanks for your help!

We have collected 485,940 pop tabs so far this year. We will probably not make it to a million like we hoped. So, let's try for half a million. We have until April 19th to collect the pop tabs to count toward the Ronald McDonald House school contest. On April 19th we will take our tabs to the Ronald McDonald house to be tallied. Let's have one last big push to get us to our goal and to help a great charity right here in Wichita!
