A Year of Transition & 150 Historical Celebration

~Shortridge Alumni Association~

150th Sesquicentennial Historical Displays Available til June
In late January, the official showcase displays arrived at Shortridge along the main aisle of the school--across from the main lobby entrance--and in the display case adjacent to the Alumni Room 181.

Alumni, visitors and friends are encouraged to stop by the school to see check out the displays and a PowerPoint presentation that highlight historical events in the school's magnificent history and school's 150-year  history and legacy; some distinguished alumni are quoted, outstanding athletes and athletic individual and team accomplishments are mentioned, along with copies of the Daily Echo. A photo of the school under construction in 1927 was found and is shown.

Thanks to the Shortridge Alumni Association, and in particular Jarnell Burks-Craig, vice president on the Board, for her research efforts and collaboration with the Indiana Historical Society and the school's Media staff for a superb job to locate and organize school memorabilia. The displays will be available until June 2015 after the SAA annual meeting.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY

Former SAA Board member, William (Bill) Boatman passed away on January 16. 2015,  after a nearly three-year illness. Both Bill and his wife and life-long soul mate, Lynn (Bolles) Boatman were known as the consummate couple since freshman year at Shortridge. During their senior year of high school, they were chosen as the school's "Blue Belle" and "Uglyman," which was one of the most popular high school events of the time. Both of them were considered among the most popular and well-liked students at the school. That sentiment carried on throughout their adult lives. Both Bill and Lynn graduated in 1958, and attended Hanover College where he graduated in 1962.
Bill was chosen to attend Summer Naval School of Culver Military Academy. He was selected to attend the US Naval Officer  Candidate School following graduation from Hanover. Just prior to OCS,. Bill and Lynn were married in September 1962.
After retiring from the Navy. Bill started his company. General Drilling. where he served as President for over 40 years.
Bill Boatman leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Lynn (Bolles) Boatman, four children, eight grandchildren, and hundreds of friends, family, and business associates.
At Lynn's request, she asked that in lieu of flowers or other family memorials that donations be sent to the Shortridge High School Legacy Scholarship Fund, 5030 Guion Road, Indianapolis, IN 46254 or Hanover College Office of Development, PO Box 108, Hanover, IN 47243. The Boatman's have been perennial supporters of various student-centered projects at Shortridge.
During Bill's tenure on the SAA Board of Directors he and Lynn served as Decade of the 1950s representatives. Lynn continues her volunteer activities with the Board.
