REMINDER: The only cost is for the LUNCHEON. If you are NOT a currently paid member of the Shortridge Alumni Assn (SAA) or your membership has expired, your cost for lunch is $20. Current SAA members receive a discount for lunch at $15.

|SPRING BAND AND ORCHESTRA CONCERT||Alumni Join the Band - Play side-by-side with one of the instrumental groups|
The Shortridge Jazz Ensemble was honored to be the high school group selected this year to host the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. A jazz workshop will be held in the morning, followed by the jazz concert at 1p.
Unfortunately, funding was not available to go to Butler U for one week of band camp; however, Kathy Spangler has reserved the FFA camp this summer from July 8-12. The FFA is willing to allow parents to prepare some of the meals and other out-of-pocket expenses to make the camp more affordable for the students and their parents. Current need is $1,000.00 to hold the camp site; donations are urgently requested to offset camp reservation. (Checks payable to Shortridge Bands and send to Kathy Spangler, band director, Shortridge Magnet H. S., 3401 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. The band budget for 2013-2014 has been estimated at $30,000 with a very small amount of that need provided by IPS. If anyone has experience fundraising and willing to consult with the Band Booster Association, please contact Jim Stroh, community volunteer, at 317-409-7918 or by email: email@example.com. They are hopeful to keep these band program offerings each year: advanced band, intermediate band, beginning band, percussion, woodwind, brass groups; jazz band, pep band, drum line, and color guard. All of these groups are taught with one full-time band director and a staff of dedicated volunteers.

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER CHOSEN FOR GRADUATION, JUNE 11th (bio correction)
Fletcher H. Wiley, Esq. has been chosen to be the commencement speaker for the 2013 graduation Tuesday, June 11, 7p, in Caleb Mills Auditorium. Wiley, a 1960 Shortridge alumnus, was the first African-American FROM INDIANA APPOINTED TO THE U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY AND THE FIRST RECRUITED TO PLAY FOOTBALL, RECOMMENDED BY SHORTRIDGE COACH GEORGE GALE. THE 5TH AFRICAN-AMERICAN TO GRADUATE FROM USAFA, he continued his studies as a Fullbright scholar in Paris, France at L'Institut Des Etudes Politiques. He received his Masters in Public Policy from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and his law degree from Harvard Law School.
For more than two decades, Wiley worked as a practicing attorney concentrating in the areas of corporate and commercial law, small business development, entertainment law, and real estate. He was a Senior Partner with the Boston law firm of Goldstein & Manello, PC.
Mr. Wiley is extensively involved in civic and charitable activities, the list of which is long and highly impressive. In 2011, he was named by U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to the Board of Visitors of The Air University; and in 2012, President Obama appointed him to the Board of Visitors of the U.S. Air Force Academy. In 2012, he also received an honorary Doctorate in Human Letters from Cambridge College and an honorary Doctorate in Law from New England School of Law.
Mr. Wiley is a member of the Bars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and District of Columbia, and belongs to the American, National, and Massachusetts Bar Associations.
Not forgetting his high school alma mater, Fletcher Wiley also is a major contributor to the Shortridge Athletic Department and Founding Member Legacy Guild. In 2010, he championed a major fund drive during his class' 50-year class reunion, helping to raise more than $20,000 for scholarships for future Shortridge graduates.
He and his wife, Benaree Pratt Wiley, reside in Brookline, Massachusetts. They have two children, Pratt and B. J.

We have hundreds of Shortridge alumni gathering this year for milestone reunion celebrations. Please inform others that our alumni association is alive and well...we need everyone's support. And if your class budgets yield a surplus, kindly consider a donation to the Legacy Scholarship Fund or other special project that will benefit the students at Shortridge.
Also, please note that if during your reunion you plan to visit the school, a written request must be submitted through the school office that must be approved by the IPS Maintenance Department IF the school is to be opened on weekends...Saturday or Sunday. A fee is levied to the using group based upon how long the group will visit the building. Other restrictions may apply; therefore, schedule your reunion and complete the necessary paperwork as early as possible to confirm your date and time.
