Shortridge Band Says Thank You!
The Shortridge Band deeply appreciates the donations given by band parents, the community and alumni these past months. The band program could not continue without your support since Shortridge's music program does not have a budget from IPS funds. So far all of the band expenses this year have been paid by private donations specifically allocated to the band. Ms. Spangler works from 7:00am to 6pm every day offering opportunities she had when in the Avon band. She usually can be found with band members on week-ends and evenings at Shortridge, or some contest throughout the state. In order to continue offering the extensive band program at Shortridge, we need your support. See Kathy Spangler for a list of items that are always needed every year to keep a band program alive.
Thank you for the following gifts:
Class of 1969 - John Austin Butsch Fund $730.00
Phylis West for theTrailer to transport band instruments $3,000
John and Beth Leth's Shortridge Family $6,500
All who contributed hundreds of bottles of water throughout the year
Jim Stroh, Community Volunteer

Judicial Wall of Fame -
by Hattie Byland, Class of 1965 The Class of 1965 is looking for judges!
In 2010, at our 45-Year Reunion, the Class of 1965 raised over $7,000 to support the new Law and Public Policy Courtroom. It has been our goal to support Shortridge's new magnet law and public policy students by providing them with inspiring information about the judicial expertise and leadership of Shortridge Alumni who were/are elected or appointed judges. Our request was to have the courtroom named in honor of our classmate, Justice William E. McAnulty Jr., who was a Supreme Court Justice in Kentucky at the time he passed away in 2007. The funds we raised were to provide furnishings for the classroom and create the courtroom wall as the Judicial Wall of Fame with a photo plaque of McAnulty and two other judges from our class, Judge Anthony J. Metz Jr. and Judge Cynthia Torain Ayers. (See courtroom photo) The courtroom has been furnished; however, the paneling and photo plaques need to be completed. Our class chose also to recognize three other judges from the classes of 1967 and 1956.
The IPS School Board, at its November 2012 meeting, unanimously approved the naming for the courtroom to be The Justice William E. McAnulty Jr. Law and Public Policy Center.
The Class of 1965 will recognize the six justices identified in the article and named below: . Please read the full article for greater details. Click here.
Judge William E. McAnulty, Jr.
Judge Cynthia Torain Ayers
Judge Anthony Metz
Judge Grant W. Hawkins
Judge Theodore (Ted) Boehm
Judge Reuben Hill
The back wall of the courtroom (as shown in the photo) will be wood-paneled and 20"x24" plaques added to the Judicial Wall of Fame. But we would like to expand this project to include other judges; we need the help of other Shortridge alumni to provide the names and information for other judges. Hopefully, classmates for other judges will want to recognize elected/appointed judges from their class. Details for the project are included in the full article as identified above.
Thank you.

Founding Members Legacy Guild
December 31, 2012, was your last opportunity to have your or a loved one's name listed as a Charter Member of Founding Members Legacy Guild. Donations to this restricted fund are a source for scholarships that will be awarded to deserving students who may be from the first graduating class in 2013. Names of Charter Members will be inscribed on a bronze plaque that will be permanently displayed along the main corridor of the school and on our website, www.shortridgealumni.com.
A General Members listing of the Shortridge Legacy Scholarship Fund donors will begin in February 2013. This recognition of donors, since 2010, will be displayed in a tiered-level format, similar to the SAAB listing of supporters, and displayed here in NewsBriefs and on our website.. Therefore, kindly consider any level of donations to add to the scholarship fund. Donors of $500 or more will continue to receive five years' membership in the alumni association, Consider these options:
- Did your class reunion make "extra" money you would like to donate toward scholarships?
- This also may be a way to honor a Shortridge graduate family member posthumously.
- Does your company have a Matching-Gift program? As the SAA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your donation may qualify for a matching gift program, Consult with your company's program administrators.
- Donations to this and other ongoing projects can now be made on our website, www.shortridgealumni.com on the Donations tab via PayPal or major credit card.
Your donation to the scholarship fund or other projects may qualify as a tax-deductible contribution. Consult with your tax advisor. Make checks payable to: Shortridge Legacy Scholarship Fund mail c/o 5030 Guion Road, Indianapolis, IN 46254.
