Dear Parents,
Happy Fall! I hope families had time to enjoy the fall break and cooler weather. Please make sure your child is dressed for the cooler temperatures as students are outside several times a day for recess and PE. We talked with students about the dress code clarification regarding outerwear: solid color sweatshirts & sweaters that zip or button up the front inside classrooms and any color sweatshirt/sweaters (including those with designs) outside for recess.
Quarter 1 ends on October 25.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Nov. 1-2 for grades K-6. Your child will bring home a date and time for you to confirm. Please make every effort to attend your scheduled conference time. Parents and teachers are far more effective when they work together as a team to educate children. JH students will be attending the MOSS camp duing the scheduled conference time. JH conferences will be scheduled by parent request after students return. If you would like to schedule a conference with a JH teacher, please contact the teacher directly. Report cards will be distibuted at conferences for grades K-6 and Nov. 5 when JH students return from MOSS. Please read information in the report card envelopes regarding the middle school credit program and differentiation.
Enrollment Update
Most classrooms are full with wait lists, but we still have a few openings in grades 3, 4 & 6. We have a couple of families relocating out of state this fall for employment reasons and anticipate a few more openings later this semester. Please spread the word to family and friends that we have openings in some grades.

Professional Development |
|
TVCS Teachers are partnering with the BSU Writing Project for some excellent professional development that will assist us as we turn our attention to the new Common Core State Standards for Literacy. We recently participated in a 6 Traits Writing workshop and have another literacy session scheduled for Oct. 19. Additionally, we are continuing to collaborate with Dr. Brendefur on our Singaore Math and CSSS Math implementation and have an all day training scheduled for Nov. 2. |

Thank you to all our community members who helped out with the garage sale and the recent Lap-a-thon. We are getting closer to our goal, but still need additional funds to send all our JH students to MOSS Camp. Please consider donating to the cause by dropping off a donation to our front office. Donations are tax-deductable and we have a donation letter for tax purposes for each donor. Many thanks to the JH parents who donated more than the requested amount so that another student might receive a partial grant to assist with costs. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Bird Observatory Trip |
|
This morning I had a rare opportunity to venture out to watch our JH students in action on thier fieldtrip to the Idaho Bird Observatory. This was an awesome opportunity for our students to watch working scientists as they captured a variety of songbirds, owls and hawks to weigh, measure, and tag the animals. The student interest was extremely high and thier excitement and engagement was contagious. I had a hard time leaving to come back to the office! See the photos to the right.
