"Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it." - Milton Friedman

CMS has issued the most comprehensive proposed rule change to the "conditions of participation" (CoPs) since 1991.  This proposed rule would revise the requirements that Long Term Care Facilities must meet to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. This proposal is extremely large in scope and will undoubtedly result in many significant intended and unintended consequences for all Long Term Care Providers.

AHCA has developed a summary and comments on some key provisions of this colossal proposal, CLICK HERE .  Some of the proposed mandates include:

  • A prohibition against conditioning admission upon signing a binding arbitration agreement;

  • A "Competency" requirement for determining sufficient nursing and other staff;

  • Implementation of an infection prevention and control program, requiring the formal designation of an infection control and prevention officer in every facility;

  • Requirements regarding bedrooms, bathrooms and roommates;

  • Extensive requirements for food and nutrition;

  • Requirements that facilities develop, implement, and maintain an effective comprehensive, data driven Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program that focuses on systems of care, outcomes of care and quality of life;

  • Requirements for comprehensive person-centered care planning.

Please share your concerns regarding this proposed rule to Lyn Bentley  so they can be considered in AHCA's comments to CMS.

Thank You For What You Do Every Day For South Dakota's Elderly and Disabled Residents!

Sincerely,

marks sig

New Feature Available On LTC Trend Tracker - Turnover And Retention Data

[email protected]

A new feature was added to LTC Trend Tracker in early May that allows organizations to upload Turnover and Retention Data directly into the system. This new upload process has replaced the mailed survey that was done in years past and is easier and faster to complete. In addition, members now have the added ability to upload data for Assisted Living Communities

The new feature has many benefits, including immediate access to the data once it has been uploaded. The form has also been simplified and members only need to enter data for the following positions: Administrator/Executive Director, Director of Nursing/Residential Care Services, staff RN, LPN/LVNs, CNAs, Aides and a total of all staff.

Members can do many things with the data once uploaded, including track statistics against others to see if you have a higher or lower turnover than your market.

This can help with hiring, budgeting and many other key decisions. Members can also show progress when applying for the AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards or when talking to referral sources.
