Premier Lighting Case Study: Holiday Gas Station LED Retrofit

Customer Profile:

Holiday stationstores is a recognized leader in the convenience store industry with over 500 stores throughout ten states in the northern region of the United States.

Goal:

Holiday had several stores that were having issues with their exterior lighting. Lights had either faded or were out completely. Holiday was hoping to do a clean sweep of these problem lights in hopes of finding a long-lasting LED solution that would eliminate long-term maintenance hassles and save energy.

Solution:

Holiday enlisted Premier Lighting to analyze the lighting at three of their stores in the Twin Cities area. The exterior lighting at each of them was comprised of 400W HID canopy lights (using 460W with the ballast). Several of these HID fixtures were out and even more had faded drastically. The fading caused the coloring of the lights to change and created an uneven distribution. Premier proposed switching them all out for 120W LED canopy fixtures that were DLC rated and would last 65,000+ hours each.
Total Lumens vs. Delivered Lumens

Total Lumens

Total Lumens has been a long-used term in lighting to describe the total light output of a given light source. Now it is common to see Delivered Lumens in it's place, particularly with LED products. Understanding the difference between these two terms will help explain one of the reasons for the ascension of LED technology over the last several years.

Delivered light aka delivered lumens describes how much useful light a light fixture can deliver to a given area, discounting any wasted light. Light can be wasted in any number of ways. It can be emitted in a direction away from the application area, it can be partially blocked or dispersed within the fixture housing, or it can be lost through filtering, lensing, fixture position, or other factors related to the specific installation.
22W High Output Type B LED T8 Tubes

Now available are Keystone's 22W high output Type B LED T8 tubes. This 22W Type B LED T8 delivers 2600 lumens, easily the most on the market for a Type B LED T8. Glass-coated construction provides protection as well as a super beam angle of 240° (325° visible light area). While maximizing energy savings continues to be at the core of LED retrofits, improving light levels from the old fluorescent lamps is a key for many applications as well, and no LED T8 can do it quite like Keystone's 22W high output LED T8.
