Premier Lighting Case Study: Gas Station LED Retrofit
New LED Outdoor Lighting at Olson's

Goal:

With the lights on for long hours, it became a grueling task for Olson's to continue maintaining their old, inefficient lighting system. Olson's was looking for a new lighting system that would both save energy and reduce maintenance costs.

Assessment:

Not only were Olson's lights burning out at a rapid pace, but their dated fixtures had lost a lot of light over the years. From fluorescent T8 and T12 lamps to HID canopy lights, HID wall packs and HID pole lights, the store was riddled with inefficient lighting and needed a complete overhaul.

Solution:

Premier left no stone unturned, as every single fixture in the facility was retrofitted to an LED solution. The inside car wash HID fixtures were retrofitted with IP65 rated LED fixtures. On the outside of the facility, long-lasting LED wallpacks, LED canopy lights and LED pole lights replaced their HID equivalents. Inside, T8 fixtures were retrofitted to LED T8, T12 fixtures were retrofitted with LED cooler door fixtures, and CFL/Incandescent lamps were replaced with LED.

Replacing Plug-in Compact Fluorescents with LED

Next to linear fluorescents, plug-in compact fluorescents are one of the most common light sources found in commercial buildings. Given their popularity, there has been a huge focus on energy-saving LED alternatives to these plug-in compact fluorescents. The available LED options for replacing compact fluorescent plug-in bulbs are following the same path as LED T8 Tubes.

Before we get into energy saving options, it is important to understand what the current plug-in compact fluorescent bulb options are. The first thing to understand is base type. There are 9 common base types for plug-in compact fluorescents, but the easy way to narrow down what you have is to look at how many pins there are. You will have either a 2-pin or 4-pin lamp. From there you can determine the exact base type you have by look at the attached charts.

With the base type figured out, the next thing to determine is what specific compact fluorescent plug-in bulb you have. There are 4 options available: Single Tube (aka PL), Double Tube (aka Quad), and Triple Tube (aka Triple), as well as Single Tube Long (aka PLL).

LED T5 Tubes - Type A Replacements for F54T5/HO Lamps

There is now a plug and play replacement solution for your 54W T5 high output fluorescent lamps. Type A LED T5 replacement bulbs utilize the same program start electronic T5HO ballasts that their fluorescent counterparts use, so no rewiring is necessary. The minimal installation time and long life of 50,000 hours results in very low long-term maintenance costs. At over 3100 delivered lumens, LED T5 lamps produce the same light output at half the energy costs - 54W fluorescent retrofitted with 27W LED.
