Premier Lighting Case Study: Optimizing Fluorescent Lighting with LED Lighting
After: Kellington's New LED Fixtures

Goal:

After many years of using and maintaining fluorescent lighting, Kellington was interested in lighting that would save energy, reduce maintenance costs, and improve light levels.
  

Assessment:

The existing facility was littered with continuous rows of fluorescent lighting and a few HID fixtures. The fluorescent T8 fixtures were becoming a maintenance hassle, as ballasts and lamps began dying out and the remaining lamps were losing light output over time.

Solution:

After running photometric reports, it was determined that we could replace the continuous rows of fluorescent fixtures with spaced-apart LED fixtures. This plan met Kellington's goal of saving energy, reducing maintenance costs and improving light levels.

Retrofit or Replace old HID Outdoor Fixtures with LED

HID Lighting (metal halide / high pressure sodium) has been the primary light source for outdoor applications until recently. LED is now the go-to choice for new construction, so what do you do with your existing HID outdoor light fixtures? The answer is to retrofit them to LED or replace them with a new LED fixture. As with all lighting projects, each situation is unique so it's important to understand what your goals are.

If your fixtures are in decent shape and your main goal is to save energy and reduce maintenance costs, then a retrofit is probably your best bet. If your fixtures are in rough shape and/or not providing you with adequate lighting, then a new fixtures is best. Here is an overview of things to consider for each option.
