"Commitment to building a bright, warm blaze"
Eastern Heights Lutheran Church (EHLC) in St. Paul, MN, began services in 1946 as a new mission church. As they enter their seventh decade in St. Paul, they maintain their "commitment to building a bright, warm blaze" to people from the east metropolitan area.
Enter Premier Lighting. While EHLC has a different meaning to "bright and warm" for parishioners and visitors, Premier Lighting did assist with brightening the church!
At an initial meeting with Pastor Steve Benson, various ideas for lighting options were discussed. Among the desired goals was energy saving lighting for the sanctuary (along with improved lighting levels), chapel and the hallways. Tim Germain, Director of Church Education was very instrumental in helping to achieve those goals.
In the sanctuary, 500W quartz halogen, 120W BR40, 75W PAR30 and 26W CFL lamps were retrofitted to new LED lamps, maintaining or exceeding previous lighting levels. Incandescent fixtures in the chapel were replaced by energy-saving LED fixtures.
A major concern was the dimly lit hallways which had recessed can fixtures. Premier Lighting demonstrated a few LED options as a solution. Collectively, we elected to retrofit the existing can fixtures with an LED can fixture retrofit kit. This project alone resulted in an energy cost savings of over $600 or nearly an 80% savings! And, the hallways were well illuminated. See before and after photos below.
Overall, EHLC received a payback of nearly 70%, less than 1.5 year ROI, assisted by the utility rebate which covered nearly 50% of the project cost. Premier Lighting coordinated the entire project from planning to installation including required utility paperwork for the rebate.
