 Public Indoor Tennis-Match Point!

Owner and players impressed with new lights

When a lighting/energy consultant from Premier Lighting stopped in at Public Indoor Tennis in Spring Lake Park they weren't aware of the lighting options available to them that would not only improve their overall light output, but also reduce the energy usage. After a detailed analysis was provided to the customer and they were presented with an opportunity to have 4 sample fixtures installed they agreed to give them a try.  When they saw the results, it didn't take long to make the decision to replace all of their existing fixtures.

1,000 Watt Metal Halide Highbay Fixtures
 |

The existing system was comprised of (64) 1,000 Watt Metal Halide fixtures and used a total of 69KW of energy at a cost of $18,952 per year.  Premier Lighting recommended a 12 lamp T5 highbay using a total 33KW of energy and only required (49) of the 12 lamp T5 highbays fixtures to replace the (64) 1000 watt metal halides. The new system has an estimated annual cost of $9,175 which equates to an annual savings of almost $9,800.

In addition to the savings, the actual light at court level improved by an average of 15%, with foot candle readings of 48 on the court and 54 foot candles at 2.5 feet above the court. These readings were taken around the perimeter and the readings in the center of the court were even better.

Tim Jachymowski the owner was so pleased, he provided the following testimonial.

We just completed retrofitting our (64) 1000 watt Metal Halide light fixtures in our dome to 12 lamp T5 Fluorescent fixtures after receiving a proposal from Premier Lighting.  My customers and I have been totally impressed with the overall lighting increase/quality in our facility since the change.  A few bullet-points regarding the retrofit process with Premier Lighting are below:
- The rebate process from Xcel Energy was simple and easy.  Premier took care of nearly everything, and the rebate portion of the job was never billed to us.
 - We were able to finance our lights with a low 3.9% interest rate through CEE based upon expected savings.  No money down!  Expected full payback of our lights with electrical savings will take only 2.9 years; after that it will be all electrical savings.
 - Premier Lighting knows how to handle their customers.  The rep always got back to me quickly whether it was 7:00am, 12:00pm or 9:00pm.  He took care of all my needs such as scheduling the light install around our busy times, facilitating replacement deliveries of defective equipment, recycling our old metal halide light bulbs, and tweaking our light setup to achieve maximum output.  Premier Lighting clearly understands that the key to success in any business is to take care of the customer.

If you are using old, inefficient light fixtures, it is a no-brainer to upgrade through Premier Lighting!
Sincerely,
Tim Jachymowski, Owner

 LED Facts!
 | |

Physical Properties Determine LED Colors
- The difference in the color of LEDs -- red, green, blue, white and amber -- is determined by the energy gap of the materials that form the p-n junction of the diode. A diode consists of a section of N-type material (negatively charged) bonded to a section of P-type material (positively charged), with electrodes on each end. The p-n junction is where these two types of material are joined. Different N- and P-type materials result in different energy gaps that can be measured in the wavelengths that correspond to different colors of the spectrum of visible light.

LEDs Conserve Energy
- Traditional incandescent bulbs are known for their energy inefficiency; almost 90 percent of the energy they consume is lost to the heat they generate.  LEDs, on the other hand, use at least 75 percent less energy than incandescents and only produce 3.4 BTUs per hour, compared to 85 BTUs for incandescent bulbs. (See References 4)

LED Reduce Energy Costs
- LEDs use only 2 to 10 watts of electricity, which is approximately one-third to one-thirtieth of that used by incandescent bulbs or compact fluorescent lamps. LED lights last 35 to 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs, and approximately 2 to 5 times longer than fluorescents. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates the widespread adoption of LED lighting in the next 20 years will save about $265 billion, prevent the need for constructing 40 new power plants and reduce the electricity demand of lighting by 33 percent.

LEDs Require No Warm-up Time
- LEDs are "instant-on," which means they achieve their optimal brightness immediately upon being powered on. This makes them especially useful in applications such as automotive and aircraft instrumentation illumination, emergency lighting and flashlights.

LEDs Have Many Home Lighting Uses
- Small LED lights can be clustered together and equipped with diffuser lenses to generate wider beams of light. Also, researchers at Purdue University developed a process that uses inexpensive silicon wafers instead of costlier sapphire-based technology. These advancements make LED lighting solutions comparable to traditional incandescent bulbs or CFLs.
