Independent poll is encouraging as we move forward

Dear Detroiter,

Together -- in the spirit of Detroit -- we are focused on creating a movement that will change the perception of Detroit for generations to come.

Today, Main Street Strategies released a Detroit mayoral poll of 1,277 likely voters using both land line and mobile phone records. Of the six currently declared mayoral candidates, 39 percent of likely voters chose me in this independent poll.

Also in a head-to-head poll with another mayoral candidate, 45% of likely voters chose me with 20% undecided.

This independent poll shows the majority of Detroiters are responding to our movement to create a strong Detroit. We are encouraged by today's poll that voters support our mission to transform Detroit and give citizens the quality municipal services you deserve.

In the spirit of Detroit, Benny N. Napoleon, J.D., is seeking the office of mayor of the city of Detroit to chart a new course toward a strong Detroit future. The current Wayne County Sheriff, Napoleon is a lifelong Detroiter who has dedicated nearly 40 years of public service to the citizens of Detroit and Wayne County. As Detroit's Chief of Police, he oversaw the largest general fund department -- and in so doing reduced violent crime by more than 34 percent. Napoleon's passion for the city and his integrity is evident in every leadership role he undertakes. His experience goes far beyond law enforcement into finance, legal, business and real estate -- at the top levels of county government and as a former executive with one of the nation's largest property acquisition firms. He is also a licensed attorney, a vocal leader and advocate for democracy, a former university professor, and mentors youth throughout Detroit. Napoleon's extensive education -- which began in Detroit Public Schools -- and numerous awards and honors are representative of his character and effectiveness.
