The new year is in full swing . . .

Last week OCA staff was scattered here and there.  Executive Vice President Michael Kelsey traveled to Washington D.C. to spend some time meeting and visiting with our legislators and their staff as well as paying a visit to the NBCA office.

The KNID Agri-Fest kicked off on Friday.  What a beautiful weekend for folks to get out and enjoy the weather!  OCA enjoyed seeing members come through the show and is excited that we were able to recruit some new members, register brands and sell a few OCA caps along the way!

The voting continues . . .

Visit the OCA Facebook Page now through Jan. 31.  The photo with the most "likes" will win. Click here to vote.

Calculating Replacement Female Cost after the Drought

How much can I afford to pay for a bred female to restock after the drought?

This is not an easy question to answer as it depends on several different factors. In evaluating how much an operation can afford to pay for a bred female several things need to be considered.

VetMed Loan Repayment

The VetMed Loan Repayment program is intended to help veterinarians who practice in areas with a shortage of food animal practitioners get reimbursed for some of their veterinary student loans.  If a person is selected, the program will pay up to $25,000 per year for the three years of the program contract.

Oklahoma has been fortunate to get nine veterinarians accepted into the program in the past four years.  If you are a recent graduate or will be graduating in May, or if you know of a recent graduate or a fourth year student who might be interested, please contact State Veterinarian Rod Hall (contact info below).  You can learn a lot about the program by clicking here.

This is a great way for a person to get into an area that is short on practices.  It is also a great way for an established practitioner who is getting close to retirement to bring in a younger veterinarian and help that younger veterinarian become established before taking over the practice.
