The company's platform has a plethora of recognition from industry biggies such as TechCrunch, Forbes, and Cisco, Innovation Works; and has been rated #1 in the Apple App Store in the Collaboration category. Well-funded and growing aggressively, it was a top priority to find an exceptional Director of Product Management to drive the future growth of company service, SDK and APIs. Sales & Marketing recruiter, Tory Thomas has embraced the Moxtra communication platform in recruiting for this role and others as an easy and efficient way to share portfolios, schedule interviews, and communicate with potential candidates and the company.

Raj Sen Sharma distinguished himself by his decade of inbound and outbound focused product management and enterprise software development experience, and his love of building things. Raj was investigating opportunities but holding out for the right challenge and the right team fit, both of which are crucial elements to success as Raj knows from his long experience as a product team manager, during which he has grown teams from 5 to 50. You may be asking "Why on-board before the start date?"
 
Well... really you should be on-boarding from the first contact with a candidate. When you receive a resume from a candidate, you should be sending a warm acknowledgment, even if you aren't hiring for that exact profile right now. This is how you build your talent pipeline.

On-boarding between when the offer is accepted and the actual start date can be critical and it can make all the difference in your team building success. This is a stage that too often is ignored or even bungled by hiring companies.

Again, you may be wondering "Why worry about this when the candidate has already accepted the offer? Can't I just wait until they show up in 2 weeks from now on a Monday morning?"
 
SOFT SKILLS: EASY TO FEEL OUT, HARDER TO TEST 
  

While hard skills are fairly easy to evaluate, soft skills are harder.

The soft skills are rather intangible: communication, leadership, critical thinking, creativity, team collaboration, attitude, common sense, and relationships, amongst others.   

 

Coding and problem-solving tests are fairly straightforward ways to gauge hard skill level, but how do you measure a candidate's soft skills?

Almost everyone in the United States has at least one social networking profile at this point, so researching a candidate's online presence is fairly easy. Social media and websites provide an interesting window into a person's soft skills. Of interest is everything from how thoroughly and professionally people present themselves, to the content and comments that they choose to post on online media.

Tech is the place to be. From higher pay and lower unemployment, innovative technologies and company cultures, the biggest problem in tech these days is recruiting and retaining the talent needed.

When it comes to salaries, a Bachelor's Degree in STEM is hard to beat.

STEM leads the pack. Engineers not only rule the world, they are rocking the earnings. Mid-career salaries are highest for Petroleum Engineers, followed by Actuarial Mathematics, Nuclear/Chemical/Electronics & Communications Engineers according to PayScale.com's recent survey on the majors with the biggest impact on future earnings.

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, this on-going survey asks candidates placed by the high tech recruiters at Redfish Technology for feedback on the recruiting process. Candidate experience and satisfaction is of great importance to Redfish, as recruiting is a partnership and must be a win-win proposition. The feedback was very positive overall with some areas for improvement identified; most candidates were directly recruited while about a quarter of placements found Redfish opportunities via the company's marketing efforts.

Spooky Strong Hiring in October
Sales & Tech Hiring Continue Upward Trend 
   

Sales hiring was spooky strong in October, we placed a number of positions such as Director of Sales, Sales Executive, and Account Executive this last month. Other hiring included technical professionals including the positions of Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer and Linux Technical Support. The hottest tech sector hiring was in Fitness Diagnostic Technology, Network Security, Web CRM Software, eLearning, and Cloud Hosting.

 

Dice reported on the big tech layoffs this quarter at Cisco and Microsoft Research Silicon Valley but noted that recruiters are busier than ever. Mergers and acquisitions abound, and companies are growing - Google has grown by 7,000 employees over the last year. The unemployment rate for all categories last month came in at 5.8 percent, but tech professionals are nearly half that at 3% in October.
