FEATURED PLACEMENT

John Moses, Senior Solutions Consultant - Enterprise Cloud Software
Redfish Technology has a long relationship with the leading provider of channel data solutions for global technology companies. There is a proven track record of successfully filling key sales positions with expert SaaS solutions talent, so when the VP of Sales decided to hire a pre-sales and post-sales solution implementation specialist and evangelist, Redfish got a call. The mission: Recruit a senior-level person, experienced in cloud/SaaS based solutions, technical by nature, who thrives in communicating and collaborating with enterprise clients, playing a pivotal role in customer relations at operational and senior management levels. The ideal candidate would be flexible and self-motivated, with a history of success; and be very comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of an organization with a rapidly expanding customer base. This role requires strong presentation and reporting skills, excellent organization and analytical abilities, and someone who knows how to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.

John Moses was hand-picked by the Redfish team for his decade-plus of experience in enterprise and midmarket solutions sales. John provided advanced pre-sales support for networking products and services by working with Sales Specialists and Account Executives to architect, design, propose, and close both existing and new opportunities. Working his way up from entry level sales, to technical sales, and then to sales management, John is very motivated and capable, and enjoys a high visibility role. As a top technical sales person who thrives on customer engagement and solution design and implementation, John has developed a strong network of industry connections and a strong reputation within channel sales, engineering, and management teams. He has a Bachelor's of Science in IT Management and numerous Cisco and CompTIA certifications as well as Secret Clearance. John recently spent a year serving his country as Liaison Officer to the United States Embassy in Afghanistan, and has earned various military honors including a Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Army Achievement, and Good Conduct Medals as well as a Meritorious Unit Citation.

"Working with Redfish Technology and Jon Piggins was an unexpected and wholly worthwhile experience for me as a potential employee in a new sector. When Redfish reached out to me I was initially reluctant, many other recruiting companies have made the mistake of trying to fit my skills into the wrong profile roles. These mistakes result in wasting my most precious resource... time. Jon recognized that this was a real fit and convinced me to really take a look at the role and the company they were considering for me. After many phone interviews, exchanges, and general conversation, I committed to securing this role. After my company interviews and selection, Jon and his team fought hard for a significant increase in salary as well as a better incentive plan, and to top it off they even negotiated a stock option package. I could not be happier with the Redfish team."

WHY EMPLOYERS SHOULD INCLUDE A 48-HOUR EXPIRATION DATE IN AN OFFER LETTER
By Meredith Dean, Executive Recruiter, IT Division

Meredith Dean, Tech Recruiter Redfish Technology The whole point of any hiring process is to fill a current hiring need. The hiring process isn't done until it's done. That means getting the offer letter signed and assuring that the candidate arrives at the new employer on the appointed day.

So as soon as the ideal candidate is identified: make the offer, manage the variables, and minimize the risks to successfully hiring him/her.

In general, the strongest way to seal the deal is to get a written offer letter signed. There should be a short window of acceptance (typically 48 hours), perhaps giving until Monday if the offer is extended on a Friday. An offer should explicitly call out next steps (to whom the signed offer needs to be returned, any contingencies such as reference checks and the timing thereof, a start date, etc.).

What are the variables and risks that you can minimize with a signed offer letter? Red Arrow

TECH TRENDS - HEALTH CARE
Wearables, Mobile Apps, Platforms & Data

Innovative Heath Tech companies provide exciting new applications of technology for our health.

Technology in healthcare is exploding, especially remote monitoring technology, mobile devices, social engagement applications. It is estimated that the market for mHealth app services will reach $26 billion by 2017 according to Research2Guidance, a mobile research company. The use of mobile healthcare technology is being embraced by consumers and healthcare professionals alike.

Mobile Devices / Wearables

Jawbone and Fitbit are examples of cool companies that have created a variety of wearable consumer fitness trackers. These devices offer access to activity stats, sleep quality, calories, heart rate, and exercise time. They allow you to set goals and measure progress.

A great example of turning fitness into a game is the Striiv's smart pedometer. The goal is to motivate 10,000 steps a day via playing a game, donating to charity, and competing with friends.

TECH SALARY TRENDS - UP, UP AND UP
Dice and Robert Half Technology Surveys

U.S. tech salaries had an average increase of nearly 3% to $87,811 in 2013, up from $85,619 the previous year according to the Dice Salary Survey - that increase was less than the 5.3% jump the prior year.

The Dice report also shows that tech powered companies are nervous as compensation satisfaction slips. The recovering economy has tech candidates very confident, with low unemployment rates in tech sectors, the job market is good and employers recognize that talent reward goes along with talent retention.

Most tech talent considering new employment report that higher compensation is the primary reason (68%). Other reasons to contemplate a move include better work conditions and opportunity for more responsibility.

WHAT ARE THE BEST RECRUITING SOURCES IN TERMS OF JOB BOARDS AND ENGINES?

SilkRoad Inc. recently published its report "Top Sources for Hires 2014" boldly subtitled "The Definitive Report on the Most Effective Recruiting Sources". Silkroad is a multination human capital management software company and so the data they have compiled from their clients is very interesting, but may not reflect every company's experience.

The report results do not reflect the experience with job board and engines as recruiting sources that we have at Redfish Technology. We crunched our numbers and have some pretty different results.

Key Differences in Focus/Sector:

The results in the Silkroad report encompass data from companies ranging in size from as few as 100 employees to mid-market and large employers. Although it is not called out, this hiring obviously encompasses the gamut of positions that medium and large employers hire for. Silkroad clients work in many industries across the nation and globe.

Redfish Technology, on the other hand, works primarily with start-up and mid-stage, aggressively growing smaller companies (although we share at least one large media and entertainment client). Redfish recruits exclusively for upper level and specialized positions, ranging from senior developers and account executives to vice presidents and the c-suite. Redfish clients are typically cutting-edge tech companies, in sectors like the software, mobile, cloud, digital media, big data, analytics, ad tech, e-learning, solar, cleantech, etc.

LETTER OF RESIGNATION TIPS
- HOW TO QUIT YOUR JOB
  Letter of Resignation
1.    Put it in Writing
Write a letter of resignation and schedule a meeting so that you can hand-deliver it to your direct supervisor. Include the effective date by which you will conclude your tenure at the current company (typically two weeks). You should submit this letter as soon as possible, upon the settling of any contingencies in your offer.

2.    Thank Your Employer
Thank the employer for the opportunity over the period of employment. Do this in the letter and in person. Keep it short and positive. You have reasons for leaving but you obviously want to maintain a productive and professional relationship with all your colleagues past and present. Industry connections are important for future references, collaboration, and future employment.

3.    Why are you leaving?
Be prepared to give a short reason about why you are leaving but do not invite, nor feel obliged to enter into a lengthy discussion. Keep your reasons within the scope of the positive. Ex. The new position you have accepted offers a significant new challenge with a technology that you are passionate about. This is not an exit interview and it is not the time to air grievances.

The TechServe Alliance reports growth in IT and Engineering job numbers for the first quarter 2014. "While engineering jobs grew at a more tepid rate in line with the overall U.S. job market, IT employment finished the first quarter on a strong note," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance.
