Senior Project Manager - Media Asset Management
The CTO of Dalet Digital Media Systems Inc. based in NYC partnered with the East coast office of Redfish Technology, nationwide tech recruiters, when the company chose to add a key member to the team. Dalet's systems are used around the world by thousands of individual users at hundreds of TV and Radio content producers, including public broadcasters, commercial networks and operators, as well as, government organizations.  Dalet Galaxy, the company's new enterprise Media Asset Management platform features a powerful workflow engine fully compliant with the latest industry standard for describing workflows for Business Process Management. Dalet sought a Project Manager to oversee the deployment of the company's software platform for high profile media customers, insuring timely project completion and customer satisfaction.

Understanding the company's critical mission and the team's technical requirements, Beth Cliff, IT Engineering Recruitment Manager at Redfish, knew that the ideal candidate must excel at executing a broad range of tasks including project planning, resource allocation, project reporting and bug-reporting, functional requirements and specifications documents, while practicing excellent communication and client satisfaction skills. These search criteria led Beth to Jamie Day, who was then a Project Manager with commercial responsibility to manage five simultaneous implementation projects to deliver digital asset management and graphics software solutions to well-known television broadcasters. She aspired to a new challenge allowing her to further develop and utilize her skills in planning and executing complex million dollar IT software implementation projects. Jamie has an M.S., Information Systems from Pace University, Seidenberg School of Computer Science, a B.A. Columbia University's Barnard College, and IS/IT Project Management certification from Villanova University. It was a talent match well made, creating a win for Dalet, Jamie and Redfish.

Social media is one area that has lived up to its hype. It's an amazing talent management, branding and employee engagement tool. For example - by creating a 3-dimensional profile of an applicant (Google the person's name-Wink), talent simply leaps out. People's quirks, interesting detours, offbeat skills all come to life as we learn more about people's personalities and "real lives". As do certain negatives like rigid ideology, or a tendency to be snarky or combative. Within an organization, social media, social learning and big data are an unparalleled communication and cohesion tool if understood and utilized correctly.

Deep down, executives know they should be deliberately managing their employer brand - but don't make the time to do it! Employer branding always seems to fall into the "important but not urgent" category, since recruiters are encouraged to focus on activities that yield more immediate results. In a recent meeting with a client, I asked them what their priorities were, and their response was "to hire 18 engineers."  This is a very clear target - when they accomplish it, there will be pats on the back and objectives ticked off. However, focusing on short-term hiring goals won't make recruiters jobs easier in the long run: they will have just as much work to do when they need to hire engineers next year.

This year, we're of the opinion that industry-watchers should take heart. Especially if you've been on the page that cleantech is past its prime or otherwise unworthy of your attention of late. Why? Because we're more optimistic about the year ahead in cleantech than in our last two years of predictions (read 2012 and 2013), which were uncharacteristically negative for a firm that's often been something of a cheerleader for the cleantech space.

What's different this year? As you'll read below, we believe the world turned an important corner in cleantech in 2013.

PAYSCALE TRENDS

Oil and Gas is hot  
Wage growth in the Oil & Gas sector is now fully recovered from the Q2 2013 dip, rising above its previous peak in Q1 2013. Wages in the Oil and Gas industry have now grown 18 percent since 2006 - the largest growth by far of any PayScale Index measure.

Tech is hot, sort of  
Wages for the Tech sector continued to heat up, but remain below previous flame points. After some sluggish growth in early 2013, wages for IT jobs rose 0.2 percent over the quarter and 1.2 percent over the year.

Tech remains strong, "substantial" hiring anticipated.

EmployeesDecember placements by Redfish Technology were heavily weighted in the Mobile Video Advertising, Disruptive Social Platform, Customer Optimization Services, and Cloud / SaaS sectors.

The positions most heavily recruited and hired at the end of the year were Full Stack Java Lead Engineer, Senior Java Engineer, Java / Software Developer, SDK Product Manager, and Senior Pre-Sales Solution Consultant.

Tech hiring was hot in December despite the holidays shortening the time available for hiring managers. According to the year-end Dice survey, technology employment is strong and will be off to a great start in 2014. The Dice survey includes nearly 900 tech-focused hiring managers and recruiters. Nearly 75% of respondents reported planning to hire more technology professionals in the next six months; and almost 24% of respondents categorized the additional hiring as "substantial".
