FEATURED PLACEMENT
Dan Ellenbaum, Insight Architect - Systems Integration and Data Management
This formidable technology provider enlisted the assistance of Redfish Technology to find and recruit an Insight Architect to work with clients delivering world-class enterprise-wide solutions and services. The company works side-by-side with clients throughout the program lifecycle, from the vision and justification phase to the design, development and implementation phases to help them achieve technology goals and business objectives through effective IT strategy. This privately-held, profitable company has an impressive client list ranging from government to healthcare to the private sector. The VP of Engineering needed someone with a unique background: experienced in database and technical scripting, with great communication and leadership skills, and client facing. Redfish recruited Dan Ellenbaum in particular for his seven years of client facing experience in a dual Software Engineering and Project Management role. Dan has team leadership experience and a penchant for training; and he is extremely bright and motivated. Dan's University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign education was in General Engineering, focus in Computer Science; and his technical specialties include Perl, Ruby, C#.NET, VB.NET, VBA, Javascript, C, C++, shell scripts, SQL, T-SQL, mySQL, and SQL Server. He is familiar with the entire Software Lifecycle, both at large corporations (SEI CMMI Level 5) and small start-ups (Extreme Programming). "I've worked with many recruiters over the years, but not only did Logan Knight get me a great new position, he helped me discover a whole new direction for my career as a Software Engineer! He was with me every step of the way, from going over job postings, to helping me prep for interviews. He even contacted me - after - my start date to see how the new job was going! I recommend Redfish Technology to all my friends. In a world of too many recruiters just doing a keyword search and wanting you to take a job, any job, Logan Knight and Redfish are the exception. Six months and counting in my new position, thank you!" - Dan Ellenbaum

NEGOTIATING YOURSELF RIGHT OUT OF AN OFFER
So you fancy yourself a skilled negotiator? That will hopefully serve you well, just don't negotiate yourself right out of an offer. We recently had a fantastic candidate who did just that.
It is important to understand that negotiating a job offer is the beginning of an important relationship between hiring manager and employee. "Don't lose sight of the human part of negotiating." cautions Rob Reeves, executive recruiter and CEO of Redfish Technology for over 17 years.
Salary negotiations can be challenging. The market is heating up for great sales, marketing and engineering talent in the technology sectors. Candidates often want a step up in salary when making a move. Even if you are the greatest thing since sliced bread, and you've got negotiating in your blood, listen up!

GIVING GOOD PHONE
How to Perform Well on a Telephone Interview
by Anna Mathieu, Marketing Communications
Almost every tech company these days will hold phone interviews before any onsite is scheduled. While this means you can keep you comfy slippers on, it doesn't mean you should get too cozy. To perform well on a telephone interview, first you must prepare in much the same way as for an in-person interview (slippers aside). Next, you must put on your phone etiquette and your listening ears.

TECH TRENDS
Salaries Are Highest in a Decade, Say Results of Dice Survey
The latest Dice Tech Salary Survey results show that salaries jumped in 2012 the most they have in a decade. Competition for tech talent is putting upward pressure on the sector's salary requirements.
With only a 3.8% tech unemployment rate, tech professionals' confidence is growing and there is more movement in the technology sector. The mobility of the workforce and the improving performance of many tech companies means more professionals are open to new career opportunities, whether they are actively pursuing those or simply keeping their profile available and responding to inquiries.
"The fact is you either pay to recruit or pay to retain and these days, at least for technology teams, companies are doing both." - Scot Melland, Chairman, President & CEO Dice Holdings, Inc.

CLEANTECH /HIGH TECH TRENDS
Start Up Hiring & Retention Struggle,
SiliconBank Survey Reports
"Every time I meet with a group of tech company CEOs they say the same thing: hiring world-class talent is one of their biggest challenges. They struggle to find, attract and retain the engineering, scientific and technical talent they need to grow their businesses." - Greg Becker, President and Chief Executive Officer, Silicon Valley Bank.

Reigniting Cleantech - Top 5 Reasons for a Post Bubble Party - By Greg Neichin, Cleantech.org
It is quite fashionable these days, especially amongst those in and around Silicon Valley, to talk about the demise of cleantech. This discussion has always seemed silly to me. There are only two groups fascinated by this dialogue: (a) US investors who were burned in deals that they likely should not have touched in the first place and (b) industry pundits & consultants with too much time on their hands. Both of these groups are frustrated and vocal, so they create substantial noise, but far less signal.
As Khosla Venture's Andrew Chung recently said, in a thoughtful piece by Katie Fehrenbacher covering the "cleantech is dead" meme, "venture is a highly cyclical business". You could say that again. Andrew continued, "we expect sustainability investments to experience a renaissance as today's breakthrough companies successfully commercialize and have massive impact on society's infrastructure."
