USICD Receives State Department Grant, in partnership with MIUSA, DREDF and IFES
|
USICD joins three leading U.S. organizations in announcing the partnership has received funding from the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor of the U.S. Department of State to strengthen the implementation and enforcement of disability rights legislation and the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at national and local levels in Kenya, Mexico and Vietnam.
USICD will be working alongside Mobility International USA (MIUSA), a disability-led organization founded in 1981 dedicated to advancing leadership and disability rights globally, the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), a disability-led, organization at the forefront of U.S. disability civil rights law and policy and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), a global leader in democracy promotion and good governance.

Lack of access to UK attractions criticized:
A recent survey, commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions, found that nearly two thirds of the UK's top attractions were not fully accessible for wheelchair users.
- Let the Children Speak:
Some 50 individuals and representatives from non-governmental organisations from around Malaysia gathered together to form the first-ever informal group to champion the cause of children with disabilities.
