How much energy really goes into making our fuel?
Come find out tonight!
What are all of the factors that go into determining it? Obviously how much energy our plant uses matters. How many gallons of boiler fuel used and how much solar power we are producing from Solar Double-Cropping matters as well...but what if we look deeper than that?
A Life Cycle Analysis (Assessment... or 'Cradle-to-Grave') can help any company, group, or entity look at all of the factors that are involved in a process. The most important use of an LCA at Piedmont is not just to learn about how we are doing, but to get a baseline in order to have a starting point for improvement.
Tonight at 6pm we will be a hosting a presentation of our 2011 LCA. Jesse Daystar, a graduate of NC State University and president of Triangle Life Cycle Assessment will be presenting our LCA in lehman's terms. Come join us. "If you ever wondered about how many fossil BTUs go into making a gallon of fuel, versus how many renewable BTUS come out of the transaction, this is the presentation for you." Lyle looks forward to hosting anyone who wants to learn a little more about how we measure our own footprint. Did we mention there's beer?
Everyone is welcome. Join us.

NCSU helps us "pack" the B100 Community Trail
At Piedmont, we are always thanking our Partners in Sustainability. We like to let you know when we have new restaurants join us. We encourage you to support their businesses. We also really enjoy our quarterly Grease Appreciation Nights. Our goal is to keep you, the membership, in contact with not only the people who produce the fuel you drive around on, but also those who help make that possible.
One of our greatest grease contributors is North Carolina State University. Over the last five years, we have collaborated with NCSU on many projects.

Our Research & Analytics department has called on their labs for backup and NCSU has sought our help with testing as well. Several interns from State have gotten their hands dirty at Piedmont to help further the project. Lyle, Rachel and Leif have helped teach Biodiesel Intensive courses, spoken to chemistry classes, and exhibited at the NC Solar Center. Lyle helped with Occupy NCSU. We have worked together on a Roadside Canola project and students and faculty frequently visit the plant for tours.
Our relationship with NC State is one that we strongly value and are grateful for... Anyone up for a Grease Appreciation Night at Clark Dining Hall?
Many thanks Wolfpack!
Did you know:
Before the 'Pack were the 'Pack...they were called the "Red Terrors"?
