February might be the shortest month of the year, but we have it jam packed with activities for Southlake Women's Club!
- Our monthly program on February 11 is all about empowering women and the life of local legend Mary Kay Ash.
- On February 12, we celebrate seniors with our annual Valentine luncheon at the new senior center at the Marq.
- On February 18, we'll have a Mardi Gras-style social at Copeland's at the Southlake Town Square.
- And on February 21, we kick off the official Art in the Square season with our annual event at the Town Hall!
Read all about these awesome gatherings and more in the newsletter below. I look forward to seeing you all soon! And if you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm here for you!
Cheers,

Thursday February 11, 2016 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Timarron Country Club
While some people hear the words "Mary Kay" and think cosmetics, this month's speaker will offer a new perspective on the dynamic Mary Kay Ash--one of a powerful female entrepreneur who obliterated the glass ceiling during an era when women weren't considered "executive material." Julia Mundy, a National Sales Director with Mary Kay, Inc., will offer first-hand stories about the history, legacy and success of one of DFW's most influential corporate leaders and the empire she created right here in DFW.
Don't worry--this is not a promotional presentation! We'll be learning about a very charming, spirited female leader and how her ethics, principles and philosophies led to a one-of-a-kind success story. Trust me, ladies, you won't want to miss this month!

It's time for the SWC annual Valentine's luncheon for our seniors, held on Friday, February 12, at The Marq in Southlake. We are still in need of volunteers!
NOTE: If you are volunteering, you are also required by the city to fill out a Volunteer Form and Background Check Form.
We are still in need of bingo prizes. These can be gift cards (approximately $10 in value) or any other nice gift items you can provide. No candles, please. You may drop off items at Kathy Talley's home, where there is a bin in the gatehouse at the bottom of her driveway. The address is 2930 Ridgecrest Dr. in Southlake. You can also bring items to the February luncheon.
Apartment for Open Arms We will be decorating an apartment for a mom and her three boys (twins age 9 & 4) at the end of February. We have all furniture needed, but are still in search of one set of boy's twin bedding. I will send out an updated list of items needed and a volunteer sign up in a separate email.

Things are really getting rolling as Art in the Square is fast approaching. Please mark your calendars for February 21 for Strokes of Art in the Square at Southlake Town Hall at 5:00 pm. We will announce our beneficiaries, get a sneak peek at the work of this year's Featured Artists and start the voting for the People's Choice award
If you haven't heard the big news, Artfair Sourcebook recently named their top 20 art festivals in the country. After evaluating hundreds of festivals based on quality of art, artist feedback and sales, drum roll please... Southlake's Art in the Square has been named #12! Congratulations to us all!
Our new website is live. Please check it out at www.artinthesquare.com, and keep an eye out for volunteer sign-ups, opening in the near future. All members are required to fill at least 2 shifts at the festival whether you're on a committee or not. Please also encourage your friends and family members to come volunteer and join in the fun. We especially need big strong men for set-up on Friday, April 22 from early morning through the afternoon!
Our next Art in the Square meeting is February 18, 9:45 am at Southlake Town Hall, 3rd floor.

It's that time of the year when we work on putting together next year's SWC Board! At the January luncheon, current board members spoke briefly about their positions, and I handed out nomination forms. If you were not able to attend that meeting, you still have a chance to nominate yourself, or someone else for a board position.I have personally made lifelong friendships by getting involved with the SWC Board and hope that you will consider getting involved. There are many positions that have not received a nomination, so please consider nominating yourself or someone you know that would be a great addition! Download the Nomination Form and email it to me at [email protected].At February's luncheon, I will introduce the Nominating Committee, which will have three board members and four regular members. We will get together after that luncheon and the new board will be voted on at our Business Luncheon in March.
If you have any questions and would like to learn more, please feel free to email me at [email protected] .

Membership Directories are now available! If you pre-ordered a copy, your directory will be available at the monthly luncheon. If you didn't pre-order, you may still purchase a directory for $4.00. Please bring cash or check.
Also, please remember that if you are a returning member, it's not too late to renew your membership. We're counting on all of our members to do what's right as a club member of SWC! |

Diann Tucker
This month, we honor someone who joined Southlake Women's Club in 2008. She has a number of talents, and she gives of her time and her heart extremely generously when it comes to serving those in need. In addition to calling her a friend, many of us know her as a woman who can "take any piece of furniture and transform it into something beautiful and useful." She's done this time and again in her involvement with decorating apartments for various charities we serve.
She was selected this month because, as one member told us and many others echoed, "she was instrumental in the Christmas Community Outreach. She made sure that every individual on our list was adopted; she also collected gifts at her home, and helped deliver them. She even took on several additional families at the last minute. Thanks to her efforts and generosity we were able to help 4 organizations reach over 80 individuals!"
Congratulations, Diann!
