How to Change an Organization without Blowing it Up

If there is one word with which everyone in healthcare is familiar, it is urgency.  For years, we have heard that hospitals have to make radical change and they need to do it yesterday.  While there is certainly truth to that mantra, perhaps the way to make meaningful change is not by major overhauls that foster employee disconnect and often times don't result in lasting changes, but by smaller grass roots movements within your organization.

Continuously pursuing smaller-scale changes -- and then weaving them together -- offers a practical middle path between large-scale transformation and small scale pilot projects that run the risk of producing too little too late.

Karen Golden-Biddle of MIT SloanManagement Review has found that organizations take three approaches to discovery that are both particularly effective for uncovering everyday disconnects in the organization's work and seeding transformation from the bottom up.

PDS Expands into Oregon and Oklahoma Markets
In a major business expansion, Professional Data Services
(PDS) is now making its innovative web-based
market intelligence and revenue management tool available to hospitals in Oregon and Oklahoma.

PDS recently signed agreements with the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (OAHHS) and the Oklahoma Hospital Association (OHA) under which the two industry associations will market the PDS product to their members. OAHHS membership includes 58 hospitals and health systems in Oregon. OHA represents more than 130 hospitals and health care entities across the state of Oklahoma.

PDS collects inpatient, outpatient and emergency room paid claims data from participating hospitals and offers it in aggregated form to users. The information allows hospitals that purchase the PDS tool to quickly and accurately benchmark specific service line revenues by payor against those at comparable hospitals. PDS clients find the data to be invaluable - and highly cost-effective - when entering into managed care contract negotiations or when establishing realistic and attainable long-term revenue management goals.  Read here what others are saying about PDS.
