PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear CCDS Families,

The dust has settled and students have returned to CCDS' rituals and routines, taking on this year's theme of Go. Embrace. Challenge. with vigor.  I couldn't be prouder of our students who have demonstrated respect, responsibility, and safety for each other, as well as to the staff and facility.

Thank you parents for getting our students to school on time, observing the drop off/pick up rules, and showing true partnership in their children's education by attending Back to School Night. It was a great night!

Please join me, along with Colly Fischer and John Garrett, on Wednesday, September 9 at 5 p.m.  for a "fireside chat."  We will speaking more about our administrative roles, how things are progressing this year so far, and what our "Year of Exploration" means for CCDS.  We look forward to seeing you, chatting, and answering any questions.  We will be holding this chat in Mrs. Bower's room in the Middle School (Room 4).

We also look forward to seeing families at the PTP meeting on the September 24 where we will be discussing administrative roles and SBAC testing results.

Warmly,

Suzanne Michelony

Have you signed up for Shoparoo?  Last year, with only 48 participants, we raised $215!  All they did was take pictures of their receipts.  Here's how to do it:

Download the app to your phone and designate CCDS as your school to support.  Then take pictures of your receipts within 14 days of the transaction. Receipts can be from any grocer, drugstore or convenience store. For every 500 points, we receive a dollar! You can invite friends too. If you are not interested in participating, bring your receipts to the main office and volunteer parents will be happy to take a picture.

Middle School ROCKS!

Reminder Regarding Free or Reduced Meal Applications

Free and reduced meal eligibility from the 2014-15 school year expires on September 28.  We need a new application every year!  Did you know this is also critical for funding under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF)?  Even if you feel you don't qualify, every family should fill out this form, even if your student doesn't wish to eat breakfast and/or lunch at school!  You are helping us gather critical information that in turn, helps fund our educational program!

Breakfast and lunch are also crucial to your child's ability to learn, and if you are rushed in the mornings, we are happy to provide an easy, healthy, delicious and budget-friendly meal for them. Forms are available in the office or online.

WHAT IS FRIENDSHIP?
Friendship is making and keeping  a friend through mutual trust and caring.

HOW DO YOU PRACTICE FRIENDSHIP?
Making and keeping friends is not automatic or an act of luck; it requires intention and effort.  The life skills of caring, cooperation, flexibility, integrity, and responsibility are all important in a friendship.

SOME THINGS TO TALK ABOUT AT HOME:
  • Be caring and show it. To keep friends, make sure that they know you value them, care about them, and are there for them.
  • Don't take a friend for granted. Just because someone is a close friend doesn't mean that they don't deserve our best social graces and genuine care.
  • Give and take. Good friendships are well-balanced and work to the benefit of each other.
