Finally!

Tomorrow begins the month dedicated to all of YOU! National Foster Care Month will be celebrated in so many ways during May. Dinners, conferences, art shows and so much more! Please do take the time to enjoy one of the many opportunities provided to celebrate the contributions of families who care for Connecticut's most vulnerable children and youth.
Region 5 (northwestern CT) celebrated early at their Superheroes Dinner Dance last weekend. It was such fun.
We'd like to give a big
Vannessa Dorantes
shout-out to everyone who made it such a special night for families. So many people were involved it would be difficult to mention every one of them. We'd especially like to recognize Joe Baranowski and
Joe Baranowski
Vannessa Dorantes. Joe is a DCF FASU supervisor who graciously greeted every partygoer at the door dressed in character. Vannessa Dorantes, Regional Administrator, spoke and visited every table.

Another recent event was our first ever Pajama Mamas. Foster moms and their friends were treated to a night of luscious desserts, Jamberry Nails (nail
Jamberrying!
wraps) designed especially for National Foster Care Month and a fun movie. Everyone really enjoyed putting on the nail wraps and the desserts were to die for! We all had so much fun that we plan to
do it again sometime soon.

A new feature on our website called In the Trenches, will allow parents and workers to write and post abou
t their experiences here in Connecticut. Our editor is available to help you craft your story. Stories can be posted anonymously if they meet certain criteria. Call our office to find out more.

Thank you for all that you do to support children and families. You truly are superheroes!

Check out all the great information we've been posting on our coalition Facebook page this past month!
  •  Listening to this was such a good way to start the day! Davion, 17, adopted by Connie Going, his former recruiter
  • This story will touch you. So often we think of youth in foster care as "more." More challenging. More traumatized. Sometimes there is a long list of mores. Lets challenge ourselves to think of them as more in a different way. More resilient. More courageous. More independent.
Help us add to THIS list. A Girl No One Would Adopt
  • Stories like this will soon be happening in CT.
If you were adopted in Connecticut and your adoption was finalized on or after October 1, 1983 then beginning July 1, 2015, you will be eligible to obtain a copy of your original birth certificate and updated medical history on file. Youngstown woman finds biological mother is her co-worker

Star of the Month
Star of the Month
Each month one of our member agencies feature a "star" whose service to children in foster care deserves special recognition.

Stars receive a small gift from the community collaborative and a certificate of appreciation from the nominating agency.  This month, we share a family from our partner, Family and Children's Aid.

Knowing that there are so many children needing loving, stable homes,
Laurie Gaudette felt it was her calling to pursue foster care. She became a licensed foster parent through the Department of Children and Families in 2002. A foster mother for eight years, Laurie fostered many children and adopted three children. In 2010 she voluntarily closed her license. Laurie became licensed as a therapeutic foster parent with Family and Children's Aid in 2013. She is currently providing care for two siblings and hopes to adopt them some day. She has also provided respite care for other children placed through Family and Children's Aid Therapeutic Foster Care Program. Laurie recognizes that every child has different needs and she is accommodating to each one's specific needs. She has provided all of the children in her care a warm, loving and supportive home life. Laurie is very active and enjoys many activities with the children including going to the beach, camping, going to the library and to the park. We would like to thank Laurie for her continuous dedication and support to Family and Children's Aid. We appreciate all that she does and wish her continued success throughout her journey as a foster/adoptive parent!
