May 2013 bring many joys and blessings to you all.
There are times when Connecticut can feel like a very large state - and other times when it seems very small, indeed. Since December 14, Connecticut has become one small town, Newtown. Every one of us feels a part of the tragedy that unfolded, because Newtown is the nightmare of every person who loves a child - and each of you read this newsletter because of your love for children. Our collective calling is to serve children of all ages and varying needs. Many of you are wondering just how our state and our nation will ever recover from this tragedy. O f the many heartwarming responses by individuals I've seen is one I thought would be particularly good for our kids and families. I challenge you to take up the " 26 Acts of Kindness" movement begun by NBC's Ann Curry. The kind deeds can be incredibly simple. One elderly man on a very long line in a Panera cited the 26 Acts and offered his place to a young mom with a toddler so she could move her struggling child to the front of the line. Simple - but heartfelt. If you are so inclined, feel free to post or have your kids post (under your Facebook account) on our Facebook page and report their kind acts. May the coming New Year bring peace and joy to you and your families and may the happy, healing sounds of children's voices fill all of your homes.
Happy New Year,
