FALL CAMPAIGN NEWS

The November 6 election offers the opportunity to create almost a billion dollars for conservation and parks, with nearly 60 measures on the ballot nationwide. The Conservation Campaign and The Trust for Public Land are involved in more than one-third of these measures. Here are some campaign highlights: 

Campaigns we are sponsoring

The Conservation Campaign is sponsoring five campaign committees for the upcoming election. We share our experience from working on hundreds of ballot measures with local campaigns, guiding them on how to structure and run a strategic campaign to pass a conservation funding measure. Election day is fast approaching. Contribute today to help us take these campaigns over the finish line.

   

Bedford, New York.  Bedford Citizens for Clean Water and Open Space is campaigning to restore an open space levy that was suspended last year due to budget pressures.

Originally passed in 2000 and renewed in 2005, the levy provides funds essential for protecting the water supply and open space in this historic, largely rural community less than an hour from New York City. Read more...

 

Bend, Oregon. This central Oregon city is known for its beautiful landscape and outdoor recreation, including rafting, fishing, and floating on the Deschutes River. This $29 million bond measure will invest in natural areas, parks, trails, and access to the river. Read more...

  

Bozeman, Montana.  $15 million Parks, Trails and Water bond will create funding to protect water quality, create parks and trails, and preserve natural areas, supporting the quality of life and outdoor recreation that powers the economy in this rapidly growing city. The bond has the strong support of the city's business community. Read more...


Houston, Texas.  With no increase in the tax rate, Proposition B will improve parks and fund the expansion of parks, trails, and natural areas along Houston's bayous -- giving kids more access to outdoor activities that will improve their health and physical well-being. The $166 million bond measure will also enhance the water quality of the city's bayous, creeks, and streams. Read more...

 

Willamalane Park and Recreation District, Oregon. A $20 million bond will improve parks, trails, and recreation areas and protect water, natural areas, and wildlife in the city of Springfield, at the southern end of the Willamette Valley. Read more...

 

New legislation sparks banner year for Mass CPA measures

Nine towns and cities in Massachusetts have put the Community Preservation Act (CPA) on the ballot this November, the largest number in many years. New legislation increasing funding and flexibility for

communities adopting the act has generated a lot of interest, particularly among cities, which have had a lower rate of participation. Municipalities voting November 6 on CPA are Beverly, Canton, Fall River, Great Barrington, Milton, Salem, Somerset, Somerville, Stoneham, and Westhampton. Read more...

 

States vote on renewing conservation investment  
Economic studies are finding that state dedicated funding for land conservation, parks, and outdoor recreation is a terrific investment in the economy. On November 6, Maine, Alabama, and Rhode Island voters will have the opportunity to renew highly successful conservation programs that support the quality of life and economy in their states.
