Globally rare alpine species
Stacy Carter, our 2015 MaryLee Everett Conservation Fellow and graduate of Brandeis University, focused her internship on climate change as a key threat to three alpine tundra species endemic to New England. She researched habitat requirements and responses to a warming climate in order to assess the potential for assisted migration, and presented her findings at our 2015 Intern Walk.

Eat, plant, love
Gaylussacia baccata (black huckleberry) has wonderful tasting berries, similar in flavor to blueberry although a touch sweeter and with slightly larger seeds. It is the most adaptable of the genus; capable of growing in full sun to heavy shade, and in average to dry soils. In addition to delicious edible berries, this New England native also offers both a spring flower display and great fall foliage.

They allow you to claim a charitable tax deduction in the year the gift is made, provide an income stream for yourself or someone else, remove assets from your taxable estate, and ultimately leave a significant gift to the Society. Trusts can be funded with gifts of appreciated securities, cash, or real estate. For more information, contact 508-877-7630 x3502.

The deer fence at Garden in the Woods is now up. Thank you to everyone who donated to this very special project to protect our native plants, and especially those rare and endangered species which the deer find so tasty! Once a new deer gate is installed, our stock beds will be flourishing again and our plantings will be protected from future munching. Thank you, thank you!
