Dear Mr. Goldberg,
I have always thought of myself as a good leader and as someone who treats my employees well. I was flexible in regard to hours, time off and I always did my best to accommodate the staff. Recently one of our employees left and filed a claim with the Department of Labor alleging I failed to pay overtime. Since I did not require timesheets, there are no records of the hours worked. I always paid everyone for forty hours. The employee kept his own records and alleges thousands of dollars in unpaid overtime payments. How do I defend the charge?

For some companies, the subject of performance reviews is such an arduous process that they simply stop doing it. I've had many a reseller tell me that they believe it's a waste of time. "All the employee wants to know is how much of a raise they are going to get. They aren't interested in having their performance reviewed."
