Philip Cortelyou Johnson (July 8, 1906 - January 25, 2005) was an influential American architect. He is especially known for his postmodern work from the 1980s and beyond...[Source: Wikipedia]. In sharing our 2015 Morin project highlights with you, the quote from Philip Johnson rang ever true...
FOOD. SHELTER. EDUCATION.
These three projects - FOOD San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market (distribution center) - SHELTER Radius Apartments - EDUCATION San Jose High School Career Technology Engineering Building - speak volumes to Mr. Johnson's mention of "great architecture" in that the "design of space" as (FOOD) "contains" and (SHELTER) "cuddles" and finally (EDUCATION) "stimulates".

- The site of a former Army supply depot hosts this new 85,000 square foot LEED Gold fresh food distribution facility.
- "We were striving for a unique look at the main entrance," says Brian Liles, AIA, Principal at Jackson Liles Architecture. "We wanted a lighter feel on the second level and a variety of textures on the longer sides of the building."
- "It's a clean and refined industrial aesthetic," Liles says. "The panels contributed to achieving LEED Gold status, due to their life cycle expectancy and because they are manufactured with a high amount of recycled product."

SHELTER
- The design goal for the Radius Apartments in Redwood City was to present a luxurious residential community through the use of a variety of products, including metal wall panels from Morin, A Kingspan Group Company.
- "It (Morin metal) brought a more distinguished aesthetic to a residential project than other material choices could have. The metal helps break up the massing in a project of this stature. It's not a singular box, it has shadows and variations in material, with metal, stucco and brick." - Grant Weaver, BDE associate

- "A big part of the inspiration came from the building being a career technology facility, it's a learning tool and that was the inspiration." - Julio Lukas, AIA
- "Metal helps us break away from what many designers have become so comfortable with, the stucco or concrete buildings," he says. "The exposed fasteners were by choice and not an economical decision. We wanted to expose how the building was put together, not hide the fasteners."
