DOWNTOWN ELGIN CONSTRUCTION E-UPDATE

Central Business District Streetscape

Central Business District Streetscape Phase V

Stage 2 of the Spring Street / Dexter Avenue streetscape project has begun.  This stage include the east side of Spring Street between Division Street and Kimball Street and the north side of Dexter Avenue between Spring Street and Center Street.

Beginning Monday, June 3, northbound Spring Street will be closed between Division Street and Kimball Street.  Traffic will be detoured at Division Street, west to Douglas Avenue, north to Kimball Street and then east on Kimball Street where they can continue north on Spring Street.  Access to all businesses on the east and west side of Spring Street will be available, but must be done coming southbound on Spring Street.  For example, if you wish to access St. John's parking lot on the northwest corner of Division Street and Spring Street, you will need to enter Spring Street from the north - Dexter Avenue, Symphony Way or Kimball Street will allow you to come southbound on Spring to enter the parking lot.

Detour signs will be posted to assist traffic around the construction zone.  While local access to businesses will be available, motorists wishing to travel "through" the work area on Spring Street are asked to follow the posted detours to ensure a speedier and safer journey.  Traffic is expected to be in this configuration through mid-July.

Specific questions regarding the construction can be directed to Shelley Costello with TranSystems at 847-871-3185. The public is invited to attend the weekly progress meetings between 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. to ask questions or seek specific information about the project. The meetings are held on Thursday mornings at the field office located at 112 North Spring Street.

For general information on the project, please contact Joe Evers at 847-931-5955 or visit the City's website at www.cityofelgin.org.

Riverside Drive Promenade Project

Riverside Drive PromenadeThe Riverside Drive Promenade Project will continue with the concrete work at the north end of the project as well as the installation of the underground utilities.   While this work is going on, IHC Construction will not necessarily be closing portions of Riverside Drive, however during the day when the utility work is going on certain areas will be impassable. IHC wants to leave the roadway partially open for the building occupants to have access while discouraging any through traffic. IHC has also reinstalled the signage that restricts through pedestrian and bicycle traffic from Riverside Drive during this time.
