Work on the next phase of the streetscape program in the downtown central business district continues. This phase of work will include new curb and gutter, sidewalk and pavement on Spring Street between Division Street and Kimball Street and on Dexter Avenue between Douglas Avenue and Center Street. New trees will be planted, along with installation of brick paver crosswalks. Work on this phase of the program is expected to be completed by mid-September.
Beginning Wednesday, April 17, the project moves into the first stage of sidewalk and curb and gutter reconstruction.
Stage 1 will consist of work being performed along the west side of Spring Street between Dexter Avenue and Kimball Street and along the north side of Dexter Avenue between Douglas Avenue and Spring Street.
On Dexter Avenue, traffic will be limited to one-way eastbound between Douglas Avenue and Spring Street. Access to this block will be from Douglas Avenue.
On Spring Street, between Dexter Avenue and Symphony Way, two-way traffic will be maintained with narrower traveling lanes. When necessary to accommodate construction vehicles, one lane may be closed but two-way traffic will be coordinated using flaggers. At the end of each construction day, two-way traffic will be opened for overnight traffic.
On Spring Street between Symphony Way and Kimball Street, only northbound traffic will be allowed and southbound Spring Street will be detoured west on Kimball Street to Douglas Avenue and then left on Douglas Avenue to continue southbound.
Detour signs have been posted to assist traffic around the construction zone.
Traffic is expected to be in this configuration through mid-May.
