With Autumn's grey ceiling hanging lower overhead it's a good time to remind ourselves that we are even less visible out on the mean streets to other motorists than usual. It's dark by five o'clock in the afternoon and in another month at about four o'clock, Old Man Sun will no longer be smiling down upon us. I manage a 75 mile commute to work and back again each day and have noticed a significant increase in the number of cars pushing into my lane as I roll along I-5.

 

I'm thinking of ways to help them to see me and along with driving lights, and retro-reflectorised decals for my panniers, I'm going to bite the bullet and get a hi-viz vest to chuck on over my mostly-black riding jacket. We have a selection of visual aids to help you be seen more easily, from hi-viz riding jackets and safety vests to LED, HID and halogen lights, to black, retro-reflectorised stickers from Moto Equip which are pre-cut to fit on the back of most late-model BMW panniers and topboxes. They're black, blend into the surface and are inconspicuous, but when a car's headlights lights them up they shine bright white!

The Parts Swap is coming up fast so please remember to bring us any useable riding gear or spare parts to sell for you. Most of us have a closet or dusty corner of the garage where unused or unwanted motorbike "stuff" is piling up. This is a great opportunity to get a bit of extra cash for the holidays or to find yourself a good deal on something motorcycle-related that you didn't know you had to have!
