WORDS TO RIDE BY:
| |
Fifteen
South of the bridge on Seventeenth I found back of the willows one summer day a motorcycle with engine running as it lay on its side, ticking over slowly in the high grass.
I was fifteen.
I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks, the demure headlights fringed where it lay; I led it gently to the road, and stood with that companion, read and friendly.
I was fifteen.
We could find the end of a road, meet the sky on out Seventeenth. I thought about hills, and patting the handle got back a confident opinion. On the bridge we indulged a forward feeling, a temble.
I was fifteen.
Thinking, back farther in the grass I found the owner, just coming to, where he had flipped over the rail. He had blood on his hand, was pale- I helped him walk to his machine. He ran his hand over it, called me good man, roared away.
I stood there, fifteen.

ASK MOTOADVENTUREGAL!
| |
Dear MotoAdventureGal: What are your tips for camping alone as a woman? MotoAdventureGal Says: I think my safe camping tips for women apply to all campers, regardless of your gender, but since I am a woman I write from that perspective. First of all, I become aware of my surroundings. KOAs and other "official" campgrounds are a good place to start. They offer services like Wifi, laundry, and often a community of other campers to socialize with. Many even offer huts or cabins which are pricier than tent camping, but then you don't have to sleep on the ground.

2013 SUMMER BIKE SWAP!
|

NOW HEAR THIS! THE RIDE WEST BIKE SWAP MOVES FORWARD TO THE PAST!
Several years ago our summer bike swap was a two day affair that ran on Saturday and Sunday. It was a lot of fun, although difficult to put on. With the increased customer interest in seemingly everything we're doing this year, we've decided to do it again! Yes, we'll need to be open on a Sunday to do this!
Calendar placement is tough. In the weeks of July we have the BMW MOA rally, the WSBMWR Rally, the Sound Rider Rally in the Gorge, and then in early August the Riders for Health Scavenger Hunt Camp-Out. We want to be represented at all of these events, and we want to urge you to attend them if at all possible! So July is pretty much booked.
All things considered, we're postponing our Summer Bike Swap from Friday and Saturday, July 12th and 13th to SATURDAY and SUNDAY August 24th and 25th! More details as we invent them!
A great chance to come and surf the lot for a great deal on a used bike, treat it as a free bike show, or even sell your own bike with Ride West help!
Any brand of motorcycle is welcome, including scooters and dirt bikes! It's a hassle free way to sell your bike. You're not waiting for no-shows or worrying about test rides or bad checks. We take trade-ins, and only 11% commission applies when your bike sells. We do all the paperwork; license, title, contracts, financing, insurance, and extended warranties on site. We send you the check when your bike sells, and it won't cost you anything if your bike doesn't sell!
Call us at (206) 527-5511 and ask for Sales if you would like information on being a seller!

IN THE PARTS & APPAREL DEPARTMENT...
|
Women's Gear! - Many women point out that motorcycle dealerships are lacking in quality gear that fits and was designed with women in mind in the first place.

A MESSAGE FROM KEITH:
|

Fifty years ago, in 1963, I got the crazy idea to drop out of college for one year and take my motorcycle through Central and South America. I had never heard of anyone doing this and was looking for a true adventure. I found it! Not wanting to do the trip alone I recruited a friend of mine, Dave Yaden, to join me on his motorcycle. So in January of that year we climbed on our matching 1958 BMW R50's and headed south from Portland, Oregon. The trip was about 200 days, 25,000 miles, $1200 and a lifetime worth of camping.
About a year ago I got the crazy notion to repeat that basic trip on the 50th anniversary of the first trip. But this time it was going to be different. So I called Dave again, proposed the idea, and he said "Let's go", even though he had not ridden in about 45 years. But this time it would be different: 100 days, 16,000 miles, about a dollar per mile and absolutely no camping. So we gathered four other crazy souls (Donn and Deby Harvey, Jim Balz and Michael Hansen) and once again headed south in January.
