Team Ride West Journal
Greetings!
» MORE Ride West Track Support!

Ever wanted to ride on a race track with no speed limits, no tickets, and no oncoming traffic?  Who hasn't?

Last year we worked with Mark DeGross of 2Fast track days and track schools to create an exciting new program.

  1. A customer who purchases a new BMW of ANY model may select ANY 2Fast track day OR school event to be held at either Pacific Raceways or the new The Ridge track outside of Shelton.
  2. We will support the customer by paying the entry fee for the track day.

Customers who wish can pay the extra $ to do the track school. We'll attend the event with our events van, me (usually), and our "Friendship Station," with chairs, tables, canopy, Crystal Light beverage, red vines, etc. We will usually also have a Ride West staff member in attendance riding an S 1000RR or other demo

  1. Once we have the date the customer selects, we'll put out the word to you so you can choose to take part with the assurance that there will be a van, table, chairs, cold water and such provided.

Last year we went to about 10 track days, and this year we might get to 20, because... we've added Mike Sullivan track days at The Ridge and Pacific Raceways to the program!

Our thanks to Mark DeGross and Mike Sullivan for their support of this program and each other, and stay tuned for news of our first scheduled track day!

» TRW Alaskan Adventure!

Second call! Many of you have expressed interest in our proposed dual tour of Alaska in late August.  But!  ...we have a lot of adventures planned and a lot of events we want to support.  Schedules have to be created and decisions made, so those of you who really want to make this happen need to step up and sign up, etc.

At the beginning of March we'll take a look and see if it is a go for Ride West customers, a go for Ride West customers and others discovered my MotoQuest, or a good idea that did not quite reach launch velocity!

Based in Anchorage, the idea is to have two groups and one trip.   My group (the pavement ride and sleep in the hotel group) will have 5 days of riding plus a free day in Homer, and spend 6 nights in hotels.  We shall be referred to as the "Miss The Moose Tour."

Dave Swezey's adventure camping group will have only the final night in the hotel, will ride off-road and camp out for 6 days, and be called the "Bear Bait Tour."

[PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS, INFORMATION, & PRICING.]

Prices vary, see info, and the trip will be limited in two ways.  6 or fewer and the group does not go, and there is an upper limit of 20.  Best of all - $100 of the fee for each rider will be donated to Riders for Health!

 Seminars Continue!

Thursday evening programs are registered for on our web site calendar, and carry with them a $10 charge that defrays most of the cost of the pizza and pop servedWe have the pizza ready at 6:30pm, and the seminars run from 7pm to about 9pm.

Saturday morning seminars are FREE and do not need registration.  Coffee, pop, and perhaps some doughnuts are provided - but no pizza!

Check out this partial schedule.  For any that you like, just send an e-mail to  team@ridewest.com with the number of people in your party.  The $10 will be paid at the door in cash or check  (no credit cards, please, as the store is close).  As an experiment, I have dropped the PayPal registration, as many people hate it!

» Overland Now Report!

Tad and Gaila are Team Ride West members who are off on a ride - for a year. Their reports keep getting better and more fascinating!   Here's the latest:

Sitting under a beachside palapa in the small quaint town of Mahahual, Yucatan, we've managed to travel through north, central, and southern Mexico without losing our heads, getting robbed, bribed or landing in jail.

"Concept" Rides

Team Ride West rides are referred to as "concept rides" because route and destination changes evolve during the day depending on the wishes of those on the ride, the weather, and events of interest we find along the way. It is not required that everyone on the ride follow the same route or reach the same destination!

» Here are the [GUIDELINES]
that we follow.
» Dinner
at Cafe Veloce

We enjoy a fine time and great food at Café Veloce for our club monthly dinners. "Our" night is the 3rd Tuesday of each month

Most people arrive between 6:00 and 6:15pm, and by 6:30pm we have looked at each others bikes sufficiently to sit down to order food.  We're in the "club" room in inclement weather and out on the deck when the sun shines.

This month's Team Ride West dinner will be on Tuesday, February 19th.

» Please [READ] for map & directions to Cafe Veloce.

»The Dirty Dozen
...wants you!

To clarify, the ""Dirty Dozen" membership is less than 12, and they are not particularly dirty!

They are a group of folks who meet from time to time to plan dual sport adventure rides from one to many days in length for all interested riders.

Be on the lookout for more events. Not on the Dirty Dozen email list yet?  Let me know and we will add you!

» TRW Members Win... Again & again!

The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) puts on a promotion designed to "rev up" riders across the country  from time to time. The cost of entry is providing your e-mail address, which presumably gets you ads from motorcycle product companies.  As a dealership employee, I am ineligible to enter, so I do not know how much of a boon or hassle this is.  Evidently not much from what I can tell.

  Revive your ride!

In any case, Team Ride West is doing VERY well with these contests. I think our "secret" is that they send out the word to dealerships all over the country - and nobody bothers to let their customers know about it - except us. We have had at least one winner in every contest so far and this time we had three winners.

Here's a picture of Tony Basile receiving his Tour Master Flex Series 3 jacket.

Hope we can keep our win streak alive next year!

» Where in The World is... Keith Thye?

Keith Thye is currently spending four months recreating a motorcycle trip that he and Dave Yaden took to South America fifty years ago (50 YEARS AGO!).  That first trip was just Keith and Dave, and they were gone over eight months.  The trip was rugged, the roads were awful, they camped nearly every night and did it on a shoestring.

This time the trip will be different.  There are six on the trip: Dave, who is nearly fluent in Spanish; Jim Balz, a doctor; Michael Hansen, a decent technician; Donn Harvey, a computer guy; his wife Deby on her own bike (always good to have a female along); and Keith, who claims to have absolutely no special skills at all.

The roads will undoubtedly be much improved (most are paved now!), they're not taking camping gear, and should have sufficient money to do this thing right.  There is no planned itinerary other than a general outline of following the earlier trip and they expect to be on the road for roughly 100 days, returning in late April or early May.

For those of you wishing to follow the adventure,
Donn and Deby Harvey will be publishing a blog at  www.ADVdonnh.com.

Dave Yaden also has a blog, and it is at  http://yaden.org/motoraidblog

Enjoy!
