WOW - What a Night!

CF Rotary Gala 2012
Cannon Falls Rotary members and guest peruse silent auction items as a prelude to an amazing evening of generosity.

Fun, Food and Feeding Children

Members of the Cannon Falls Rotary gathered last Saturday night for their annual fund raising gala and raise funds they did. I was invited to attend and

share some stories of our Packing for the Weekend Program .

Last year's gala raised funds to begin the program in Cannon Falls Schools. Packing for the Weekend -Cannon Falls began in January with 30 families. They continued feeding children throughout the summer. This year the Rotary goal was to raise money to begin the program in their middle school. I am happy to report that they will be able to do so having raised over $13,000 on Saturday night.

It was an amazing experience personally. I have had plenty of opportunities to share this story, but never have I been privileged to such immediate results. The auctioneer asked for donations and they came in faster then the numbers could be recorded. It brought tears to my eyes to be able to experience how people were willing to share their very hard earned dollars to help those who will never know from who the help came. It was like a huge. warm invisible helping hand coming out of nowhere to save children they may never see.

I know and have shared with you all the reasons that giving is good for the soul. I believe that giving is just as rewarding for the giver as it is for the recipient, but this experience was magical. Thank you Cannon Falls Rotary members. You are wonderful.

For those of you reading this, I know you've been bombarded with appeal letters and emails reminding you that Thursday is Give to the Max Day. This is an awesome way to get involved in philanthropy. In Red Wing, we have a huge celebration at the YMCA where anyone can come in and explore many giving opportunities and choose which to help, while enjoying entertainment and prizes throughout the day. I have been told that there is something big happening at 6:45 pm that you WILL NOT WANT TO MISS!!

What sometimes feels like pressure can become a very enjoyable experience as the Cannon Falls Rotary exhibited Saturday night. So join us at the Y.

Give what you can, volunteer where you can, learn about all that is happening in our community and most of all HAVE A GOOD TIME while helping others.

Thanks for reading!
